DescriptionThe whole story▼
Most owners have a routine for the yearly once-over on a CRF230F: oil, filter, chain, spokes, tyres, brakes. The controls hardly ever make that list. A clutch lever survives a summer of slow topples in long grass, comes back a little twisted and a little stiff, and stays on the bike because it still works after a fashion. Honda's air-cooled trail four-stroke is forgiving enough that nobody looks twice. Accossato lists the AGS196 for the CRF230F built from 2004 to 2019, a silver clutch lever in the shape of the original, and it is cheap enough to belong on the spring list.

Construction and Material Quality
An original spare parts type is defined by what it leaves alone. The AGS196 repeats the outline Honda used on the CRF230F, so the reach at the fingertips stays where the rider's hand already goes and the left side of the bike looks untouched once the job is done. Accossato built this part of its catalogue around price, on the reasonable view that a control which gets broken over and over should not cost like a tuning component. The company adds that the way these levers are produced leaves them more resistant once they have taken damage or a fall. The colour listed is silver. Nothing further is published about the part, and nothing further is claimed here.
The Control Nobody Inspects
Put the CRF230F on a stand for its annual service and give the left-hand control five honest minutes. Take the lever off the perch first. One that has been down more than once often carries a slight twist the eye misses while it is still bolted in place; laid on a flat bench it shows at once. Look at the pivot hole, which goes oval on a machine that has spent years in dust, and at the seat where the cable barrel sits, because a worn seat makes the pull feel vague no matter how good the rest of the system is. Wipe the old grease away, clean the perch, and put a trace of fresh grease on the pivot before anything goes back together. A twisted lever should be replaced rather than talked back into line: a control that has been bent once and straightened once has already been asked for everything it had. With the new one fitted, set the free play at the cable the way the manual describes, then pull slowly and watch the arm at the engine move through its travel. Squeeze it fully a few times and make sure it comes all the way back on its own. Five minutes in spring is worth a whole ride in autumn.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the AGS196 for the CRF230F from 2004 to 2019, which is a longer run than the brake side of the same machine, where the AGD93 stops in 2017. The same clutch lever is catalogued with us for the Honda CRF150F, so a household that keeps both bikes can hold one spare for the pair. Anyone who would rather have a tuning part than a plain replacement will find Accossato's CNC levers for this machine under B8206 and C7103. Whichever way you go, hold the product photograph against the lever on your own bike before you order.
Road Approval
No test or approval papers for the AGS196 reached us, so there is no German ABE and no test mark we could quote. The lever is offered for racing and competition, which fits a machine built for the trail.
