DescriptionThe whole story▼

The Monster 1200 R arrived for 2016 as the sportiest of the big Monsters, and many owners take it to track days. On a circuit, a slow slide into the gravel trap is a common way to end a session early: the bike slithers to a halt on its side, and the marshals help to pick it up. The damage is usually modest, and a fall to the left often means a scraped or snapped clutch lever. For the Monster 1200 R of 2016, Accossato lists the AGS199, a silver replacement clutch lever in the original form.

Key Features

  • Replacement clutch lever, original type, for the Ducati Monster 1200 R
  • Accossato lists it for the 2016 model year
  • Silver
  • Left handlebar, clutch
  • Developed by Accossato for good value for money
  • Accossato: increased resistance after damage or a fall, thanks to the production process
  • One lever
  • No German ABE or test mark; for racing and competition use

Construction and Material Quality

After an off at a track day, the question is whether the bike can go out again, and a spare in the original form helps to make the answer yes. The AGS199 follows the shape of the lever fitted to the Monster 1200 R, so the controls stay as the rider knows them. Accossato's aim for these levers is value for money, and the company states that its manufacturing process gives them greater resistance after damage or collisions. The lever is silver, as on Accossato's list. The company, whose history includes an Enduro world title in 1985, gives no further details on this lever.

From the Gravel to the Paddock

Stay with the bike only as long as the marshals say it is safe, and let them decide how it is recovered. Back in the paddock, resist the urge to rush. Clear the gravel from the bodywork, the radiator and the footpegs, and look carefully at the handlebar, both levers, the gear lever and the footrest hangers. A bike that has been through a gravel trap can carry stones in places you do not see at once, so check the chain and sprockets as well. A broken or bent clutch lever is quick to swap: clean the pivot, grease it lightly, fit the replacement and check that it moves freely and returns fully. Then work the clutch at a standstill with the engine running, check the clutch switch, and ask the organiser whether the Monster 1200 R needs to be seen again at the technical check before you rejoin, since many organisers want to inspect a crashed bike before it goes back out.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato names the AGS199 for the Monster 1200 R of 2016, and it is the only replacement clutch lever on the list for this version; no replacement brake lever is given for the R. We also list the AGS199 for the Monster 1200, the Monster 1200 S and the Diavel Carbon. Accossato's CNC levers for the Monster 1200 R are EDF099, ESH011, LV013, LV015 and RA002, if you would rather fit a tuning part for the circuit.

Road Approval

We hold no approval documents for the AGS199, neither a German ABE nor a test mark, and therefore list it for racing and competition, which suits a track-day spare.
