DescriptionThe whole story▼

Café racer meets and informal club runs built around retro-styled bikes like the XSR900 tend to bring out a bit more enthusiasm than the road strictly allows, and a dropped bike in a crowded car park is a familiar story at the end of the day. Accossato's AGD221 answers it with a silver front brake lever in the original form, listed for the XSR900 across 2016 to 2021.

Key Features

  • Front brake lever in the original form for the Yamaha XSR900
  • Accossato lists the AGD221 from 2016 to 2021
  • Silver finish
  • Right-hand side of the handlebar
  • An original spare parts type, priced as a repair rather than a tuning part
  • Accossato states increased resistance after damage or a collision
  • One lever supplied
  • No German ABE or test mark on file; listed for racing and competition

Construction and Material Quality

There is nothing experimental about the AGD221: it reproduces the shape the XSR900 already carried from the factory, so a bike repaired after a tip-over looks and feels exactly as it did beforehand. Accossato's own description places it among its original spare parts type, a category priced for an everyday repair rather than a tuning upgrade, and the company states its manufacturing process makes these levers more resistant once damage has already been done. Silver is the one colour quoted, and the firm says nothing further about what the lever is made from.

The Risk of a Crowded Meet

A club gathering full of similar retro-styled bikes parked close together is exactly the setting where one dropped XSR900 can take out the lever on the machine next to it, and even a careful rider can end up with a bent control through no fault of their own. Checking the lever for a kink along its length after any contact, however minor, is worth doing before riding away, since a bend that still allows movement is not the same as a lever that is actually straight. Fit the AGD221 with the pivot cleaned and lightly greased, and confirm the brake finds a firm point at a standstill before the XSR900 goes back on the road.

Fitment and Compatibility

Yamaha used this bar fitting widely enough that the AGD221 also appears in our shop under the FZ8 and under a handful of MT-badged naked bikes. If the XSR900 in question left the factory with a black lever instead, the matching code is the AGD287, and the clutch position on either version is handled by the AGS01. A tuning option for this fitment is listed under EDF016 and ESY688.

Road Approval

No approval paperwork was supplied with the AGD221, so no German ABE and no test mark apply to it, and the lever is listed for racing and competition use.

Scope of Delivery
