DescriptionThe whole story▼
Open country asks more of a front brake than tight woods do. Speeds are higher, the ground changes without warning, and a rider crossing a wide stretch of moor or desert scrub brakes hard from real pace rather than shaving a few miles an hour off a crawl. A 450XC-W is built for that kind of going. Accossato lists the AGD316 for it from 2014 to 2016, a silver front brake lever in the original form.
Key Features
- Front brake lever in the original form for the KTM 450XC-W
- Accossato's entry covers 2014 to 2016
- Silver
- Right of the handlebar, front brake
- One of Accossato's original spare parts types
- The maker reports greater resistance after damage or a collision
- A single lever per pack
- No German ABE, no test mark; racing and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Braking hard from speed is not the moment to discover that a control sits differently. The AGD316 keeps the outline of the brake lever the 450XC-W was supplied with, which means the fingers meet the blade where they always have and the force arriving at the master cylinder is the force the machine was designed around. Accossato developed the range as original spare parts types with an affordable repair as the aim, and states that the process used in manufacture leaves these levers more resistant after damage or a collision. The colour listed here is silver, and no other specification is published.
Wide-Open Ground and Hard Braking
Fast, open riding puts particular demands on a front brake and therefore on the lever that operates it. The first is modulation: a rider braking from speed on a loose surface is managing the front wheel continuously rather than simply squeezing, and the fine control for that lives in the last part of the blade, which is precisely the part that breaks off in a fall. A shortened lever forces the hand inboard, where the movement available is smaller and the feel is coarser. The second demand is consistency. On a long descent or a series of hard stops, the rider needs the pressure point to arrive in the same place every time, so a blade that is slightly bent, or a pivot with play in it, introduces a vagueness that is felt as a lack of confidence rather than as a fault. The third is simply that a hand which is holding on hard cannot also be reaching. Set the lever angle for the standing position and check the reach with gloves on; two fingers should find the end of the blade without the wrist breaking upwards. Then keep the pivot clean and greased, replace a blade that is no longer straight instead of tolerating it, and pull the brake hard a few times with the 450XC-W stationary before every long ride.
Fitment and Compatibility
On Accossato's list the 450XC-W appears twice, once per side: the AGD316 for the front brake across 2014 to 2016, and the AGS14 for the clutch from 2009 to 2016. Nothing has to be chosen between competing codes here. Outside this marque, the same brake entry stands against the Husqvarna FE 350, the Husqvarna FS 450 and the Husqvarna TC 125 in our catalogue. Should a tuning part be wanted in place of a plain blade, the CNC levers named by Accossato here are the B8303 and the C7303.
Road Approval
No approval documentation for the AGD316 was provided to us, so neither a German ABE nor a test mark can be quoted, and we offer the lever for racing and competition.
