DescriptionThe whole story▼

The S 1000 RR is a common sight in the pit lanes of club endurance races, where two or three riders share one bike over several hours. In a race like that, a slow crash does not have to be the end: the rider brings the bike back to the pits, the crew repairs what it can, and the bike goes out again. The part the crew reaches for most often is a lever. For the S 1000 RR of 2010 to 2018, Accossato lists the AGD08, a silver replacement brake lever in the original form.

Key Features

  • Original-type replacement brake lever for the BMW S 1000 RR
  • Listed by Accossato for 2010 to 2018, with and without ABS
  • Silver
  • Front brake lever on the right
  • Developed by Accossato with value for money in mind
  • Accossato attributes increased resistance after damage or collisions to its manufacturing process
  • One lever
  • No German ABE or test mark documented; for racing and competition

Construction and Material Quality

For a race crew, the case for a spare in the original form is simple: it replaces the damaged part without changing how the cockpit looks, and the riders find their bike as they know it. The AGD08 is Accossato's original spare parts type for the S 1000 RR, developed to offer value for money, which counts when a season can use up more than one lever. According to Accossato, its manufacturing process improves the lever's resistance after damage or a crash. The colour is silver, as given in Accossato's list.

Minutes in the Pit Box

A crew that repairs crashed bikes quickly has prepared for it. The spare levers sit in a labelled box together with the tools that fit them, and one crew member knows the job well enough to do it without thinking. When the S 1000 RR comes in, someone checks the rider first and then the bike: handlebar, master cylinder, brake line, footpegs and fairing mounts. If the brake lever is bent or snapped, the pivot comes out, the stub goes in the bin and the replacement goes on with a trace of grease on the pivot. Before the bike leaves the box, the lever is pulled several times with the bike stationary to confirm a firm pressure point that does not creep towards the grip. In some series, officials want to see a crashed bike before it may rejoin, so a clean, correct repair saves time twice. Practise the swap during testing rather than doing it for the first time in the race.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato gives the AGD08 for the S 1000 RR of 2010 to 2011 and 2012 to 2014, each with and without ABS, and for the ABS bikes of 2015 to 2016 and 2017 to 2018. No other replacement brake lever is named for the model, which makes the choice straightforward for any S 1000 RR of those years. The same lever is listed with us for bikes from other makers as well, among them the Yamaha R1, the Suzuki GSX-R 1000 and the Triumph Street Triple 675. Accossato's CNC levers EDF022 and ESB22H are the tuning alternative for the S 1000 RR.

Road Approval

No German ABE and no test mark are on file for the AGD08. We list it for racing and competition, which is where a pit-box spare belongs.
