DescriptionThe whole story▼

The Multistrada 1200 has been through two engine generations: the Testastretta 11° of 2010 to 2014 and, from 2015, the DVT with its variable valve timing. What many examples share is mileage. These are bikes that cross countries, and on a well-used Multistrada 1200 the oil filler has been opened more often than anyone has counted. Accossato lists the FP004 for the Multistrada 1200 across the years 2010 to 2017: an aluminium oil filler cap, CNC-machined and anodised, with an M20x2.5 thread.

Key Features

  • Oil filler cap for the Ducati Multistrada 1200, 2010 to 2017
  • Listed for Testastretta 11° and DVT model years alike
  • M20x2.5 thread, per Accossato
  • CNC-machined aluminium, anodised
  • Eight colours: black, silver, titanium, red, gold, orange, blue, green
  • Matches the FP007 clutch cover and TS003 front cap for this bike
  • No German ABE on record; for track use

Construction and Material Quality

Aluminium comes first, then CNC machining, then anodising: that sequence gives the FP004 its shape and its colour, which is offered in eight versions, from black, silver and titanium to red, gold, orange, blue and green. The one dimension Accossato quotes is the thread, M20x2.5, and the company adds that the cap fits the applications on its list and may be used on other motorcycles whose filler takes a cap of this size. The cap's thread is only half of the connection. The other half is cut into the engine, and that half deserves even more care.

Start It by Hand, Spare the Engine

The thread for the oil filler is cut into the engine casing, and repairing a damaged one is a far bigger job than replacing any cap. The damage usually happens in a hurry: a cap started at a slight angle and then forced, or one tightened with pliers until it bites. On a high-mileage Multistrada 1200 the filler has been opened at every check and every oil change, so it pays to treat that thread with respect. Always open the filler with the engine stopped and cooled, and read the level first, following the owner's manual to the letter. Before the cap comes out, wipe the area around it so no dirt can fall into the engine, and while it is out, rest it on a clean cloth. Clean the cap's thread and the sealing face. Then start the FP004 by hand, turning it gently backwards until you feel it drop into the first turn of the thread, and only then turn it in. It should run smoothly under your fingers; if it tightens early, take it out and start again rather than pushing on. Once it is seated, stop. After the next ride, check that the filler area has stayed dry.

Fitment and Compatibility

The FP004 is on Accossato's list for the Multistrada 1200 from 2010 to 2017, with an ABS entry for 2010 to 2014 alongside the general one. Being identified by its M20x2.5 thread, the cap can also be adapted to other motorcycles of the same cap size, Accossato says. We also carry it for the Monster 1200 S, the Hypermotard 821 and the Desert X. For the Multistrada 1200, Accossato adds the FP007 clutch master cylinder cover and the TS003 front brake fluid reservoir cap, and the three share six colours.

Road Approval

Neither an ABE nor a test mark is available to us for the FP004, and we therefore list it for racing and competition.
