DescriptionThe whole story▼
The R3 gives learner and newly licensed riders a proper sportsbike riding position on a twin that is forgiving enough to live with day to day, which makes it a common choice for a first track experience organised through a local riding club. Those introductory track sessions are deliberately slow-paced, but the unfamiliar sensation of leaning a sportsbike over properly for the first time still catches a fair number of riders out in exactly the gentle corners meant to build confidence. Accossato lists the PF064 front axle sliders for the R3 of 2015 to 2018.
Key Features
- Front axle sliders for the Yamaha R3, 2015 to 2018
- Accossato PF064, one protector for each side
- Aluminium and plastic, finished in black
- Spacers, screws and remaining mounting parts in the kit, according to Accossato
- TP077 crash pads also listed for this bike
- Meant to take the first contact in a tip-over or slide
- Same pair listed for the Yamaha MT-03
- No German ABE on file; for track and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Both PF064 protectors pair aluminium with plastic and come finished in black, sized for the left and right side of the front wheel. Accossato's own account of the kit lists the spacers, the screws and the remaining fittings it regards as necessary for mounting. In a beginner-friendly trackday session, where riders are still learning how much lean a proper sportsbike riding position actually needs, these sliders are positioned to reach the ground ahead of the fork and the front axle area should the bike slide away from underneath its rider, taking some of what those parts would otherwise suffer. Once a slider has ground down in a slow-speed slide, fit a replacement rather than trust it again.
A First Trackday, Leaning for the First Time
Riding club introductory sessions build confidence gradually, usually starting with wide, gentle corners and plenty of track width to play with, yet the simple act of leaning a sportsbike properly for the first time still surprises many R3 riders. A corner that looks easy from the outside can feel alarming at the controls when the bike leans further than a road rider is used to, and that unfamiliar sensation sometimes leads to a rider sitting up or braking mid-corner, which can unsettle the bike enough to slide. Instructors generally recommend looking through the corner and trusting the bike's natural stability rather than fighting it, but a low-speed off still happens occasionally even with good guidance. When the R3 does slide in a corner like this, the sliders take the first contact; check them, the fork and the levers before the next session.
Fitment and Compatibility
On Accossato's own catalogue, the PF064 is tied to the R3's 2015-to-2018 model years, and that is the span we use. This front slider also appears in our shop against the Yamaha MT-03, since the two bikes share the same front end. The TP077 crash pads cover the fairing of the R3. If your bike does not sit clearly within those years, send us its details before ordering.
Road Approval
We hold no ABE or other test document for the PF064, so it is supplied for racing and competition use.
Scope of Delivery
