DescriptionThe whole story▼
The cross-plane R1 reshaped what a production superbike could sound and feel like when it launched, and the generation built from 2015 remains a benchmark for owners chasing lap times at a proper circuit rather than posing outside a café. A fast circuit inevitably means a gravel trap waiting beyond the tarmac at several corners, and a rider who runs out of track finds out quickly how differently a superbike behaves once the front wheel leaves the paved surface. Accossato lists the PF046 front axle sliders for the R1 of 2015 to 2018.
Key Features
- Front axle sliders for the Yamaha R1, 2015 to 2018
- Accossato PF046, one protector for each side
- Aluminium and plastic, finished in black
- Spacers, screws and remaining mounting parts in the kit, according to Accossato
- PP019 rear sliders and TP018/TP025 crash pads also listed for this bike
- Meant to take the first contact in a slide or fall
- Same pair listed for the MT-10, MT-10 SP, R1M and R6
- No German ABE on file; for racing and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
The PF046 pair is cast from aluminium and plastic together and finished in black, built for the left and right side of the front wheel. Accossato's own account of the kit lists the spacers, the screws and the other fittings needed to mount them. Running wide into a gravel trap, or sliding on the tarmac itself, is exactly when these sliders earn their place: reaching the loose stones or the circuit surface ahead of the fork and axle area, and in doing so taking some of what those parts would otherwise suffer. A slider chewed up by gravel is not something to reuse; fit a replacement before heading out again.
Beyond the Tarmac, Into the Gravel
A gravel trap does its job by slowing a bike down quickly, but that deceleration is rarely smooth, and a superbike like the R1 arriving at speed can pitch, dig in or tip over entirely once its tyres lose the grip that tarmac provided. Riders who run wide usually describe the moment as sudden: one instant still on track, the next surrounded by loose stones with little control over how the bike settles. The front end often takes the brunt of this kind of off, since it is usually still loaded under braking when the surface changes. After any gravel trap excursion, a full check of the bike is essential before it returns to the circuit, and the sliders, having taken the first contact, are the obvious place to start that inspection.
Fitment and Compatibility
On the R1, the PF046 is tied to the 2015-to-2018 model years in Accossato's own catalogue, and that is the span we use. Rear protection on the same bike comes from the PP019, while the fairing can take either the TP018 or the TP025 crash pads depending on year. This front slider design is also shared in our shop with the MT-10, the MT-10 SP, the R1M and the R6. If your R1 does not sit clearly within those years, send us its details before ordering.
Road Approval
We hold no ABE or other test document for the PF046, so it is supplied for racing and competition use.
