DescriptionThe whole story▼
Of all the big Monsters, the Monster 1200 R is the one you are most likely to meet in a pit lane. Ducati made it the sharpest member of the Monster 1200 family, with upgraded suspension, and plenty of owners take it to a circuit now and then. On track, the question is not whether you will run wide one day, but what lies beyond the kerb when you do. Accossato's PF05 gives the front of the Monster 1200 R of 2016 to 2018 two black sliders for the moment the tarmac ends.
Key Features
- Front axle sliders for the Ducati Monster 1200 R, 2016 to 2018
- Accossato front fork protection PF05
- Left and right protector in the pack
- Aluminium and plastic, finished in black
- Spacers, screws and all other mounting parts included, Accossato states
- PP069 rear sliders and TP080 crash pads also listed for the R
- No German ABE documented; for track and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
PF05 is the code Accossato uses for this front fork protection, and the pack holds two black protectors, one per side. They are made from aluminium and plastic, and Accossato includes the spacers, the screws and everything else required for mounting. On a circuit their task is straightforward. If the Monster 1200 R slides out or tips over in a run-off area, the sliders are meant to meet the ground before the fork, which can limit the damage there. What they cannot do is choose where the bike ends up, and after any off they deserve a close look.
What Lies Beyond the Kerb
Circuits use three kinds of run-off, and each asks for a different reaction. Tarmac run-off is the most forgiving: stay upright, brake smoothly in a straight line and rejoin only when the marshals and the traffic behind you allow it. Grass is slippery, above all when damp, so ease off the brakes, keep the bars straight and let the bike roll down to walking pace before you try to turn. Gravel traps are built to stop motorcycles, and they do so abruptly; if you enter one upright, stay off the front brake, keep the throttle steady and ride straight on. Whatever happens, raise a hand when you stop and follow the marshals' directions. Many organisers want a bike that has visited the gravel inspected before it goes out again, and it is worth doing anyway: clear stones from the radiator and the footpegs, then look at the sliders, levers and fork. On the Monster 1200 R, a quick check in the paddock can save the rest of the day.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the PF05 for the Monster 1200 R from 2016 to 2018. For the same bike it also offers the PP069 rear axle sliders, given for 2016 and 2017, and the TP080 crash pads for 2016 to 2018. In our catalogue the PF05 is linked to further Ducati models too, including the Hyperstrada 821 and the Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak. At a race meeting, the organiser's technical rules decide what may be fitted to your Monster 1200 R, so read them before the event.
Road Approval
For the PF05 there is no German ABE or other approval paper in our records, so we sell it for use on the racetrack and in competition.
