DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Streetfighter 848 put a version of the engine from Ducati's 848 superbike into a naked bike with wide handlebars and an aggressive stance. The youngest examples are now more than ten years old, and many have reached the age at which the brakes need a proper inspection rather than a quick glance. Accossato's DK053 is a floating front disc for the Ducati Streetfighter 848, listed for 2011 to 2015. It measures 320 mm by 4.5 mm, has a black carrier and, according to the maker, is interchangeable with the original disc.
Key Features
- Floating front disc for the Ducati Streetfighter 848, 2011 to 2015
- Friction ring joined to a black carrier by rivets
- 320 mm outer diameter, 72 mm inner diameter, 4.5 mm thickness
- Interchangeable with the original equipment disc, says Accossato
- Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
- Priced per disc; the Streetfighter 848 has two at the front
- Accossato levers for this bike: EDF099 brake, ESH011 clutch
- No German ABE documented, intended for the track
Construction and Material Quality
Two pieces make up the DK053, and they are deliberately not joined solid. The black centre section holds the fixing holes for the wheel; the outer friction ring, which the pads squeeze, is linked to it by rivets. When a hard stop heats the ring, it can grow a fraction and settle between the pads while the centre stays cool and flat, which is why a slight, even looseness at the rivets is intended. Accossato states that it worked out the tolerances of this connection in detail, applying lessons from its racing in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3. The ring spans 320 mm, the centre opening is 72 mm and the friction band measures 4.5 mm.
A Streetfighter Past Its Tenth Birthday
Age wears a brake in ways that mileage alone does not show. A Streetfighter 848 that spends most of the year in a garage may have covered little distance, yet its discs have been through years of condensation, winter storage and the odd wash with the wrong cleaner. The friction face may carry fine pitting, the rivets a ring of corrosion, and pads left pressed against one spot for months can leave an imprint behind.
Owners who want to keep an older naked bike riding as it should often plan a brake refresh rather than a single repair: discs, pads and fluid in one go, together with a look at the hoses and the caliper pistons. Measure the old discs first. If they are close to the minimum printed on them, or show cracks or deep grooves, they are finished regardless of the kilometres on the clock. Accossato also gives a general guide of thirty to forty thousand kilometres, but on a Streetfighter 848 of this age, time can be the stronger argument.
Fitment and Compatibility
The application list covers the Streetfighter 848 from 2011 to 2015 and names no other Accossato disc for the bike, front or rear. The Streetfighter 848 has two discs at the front and the price here is for one, so a complete change calls for two. For the controls, Accossato also lists the EDF099 brake lever and the ESH011 clutch lever. When the discs come off, clean the threads and the mounting faces on the wheel, and tighten the bolts to the torque Ducati gives in the manual.
Road Approval
For Germany there is no documented ABE for this disc and no type approval, so it is sold for the racetrack and for competition.
Scope of Delivery
