DescriptionThe whole story▼
The weeks before a long tour are when owners of a Ducati Multistrada V2 S check tyres, change oil and plan routes. The front discs deserve a place on that list, since they do most of the stopping on a loaded bike. A disc near its limit may feel fine around town yet has less material to absorb heat on a mountain descent far from home. Accossato's DKS053 is listed for the Multistrada V2 S of 2022 to 2024; it is a floating front disc with a black carrier and a friction ring of 320 mm diameter and 5.5 mm thickness.
Key Features
- Floating front brake disc for the Ducati Multistrada V2 S, 2022 to 2024
- 320 mm outside, 72 mm inside, 5.5 mm thick
- Fixing via five 8.5 mm holes on a 90 mm circle
- Black carrier
- Accossato: replaces the original disc directly
- Minimum thickness printed on each disc
- DK053, with a thinner ring, also listed for this bike
- Sold per disc; the front wheel holds two
Construction and Material Quality
In the DKS053, a 320 mm friction ring and a black carrier are held together by rivets that allow a small float. On the hub side, the carrier has a 72 mm centre and five holes of 8.5 mm arranged on a 90 mm circle; the ring is 5.5 mm thick. Accossato says it has refined the clearance between the two parts through its experience in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3. Its discs, it adds, are kept light, which it counts as an advantage for steering and control.
Checks Before the Big Trip
A pre-tour brake check takes half an hour. With the Multistrada V2 S on a stand, look at the pads through the calipers and judge how much friction material is left; if they will not last the trip, replace them now. Measure both front discs and compare the readings with the minimum printed on each. Accossato recommends replacing discs every thirty to forty thousand kilometres, or sooner once they are worn, cracked or scored, and a long tour can add a good share of that distance in a few weeks.
Look at the brake fluid too. It darkens with age as it absorbs moisture, and old fluid boils at a lower temperature, which shows up as a lever that goes soft on long descents. If a disc change is due, do it early, so that a few hundred kilometres of normal riding can bed in the new pads before the loaded bike meets its first pass. Many long-distance riders pack a spare set of pads, but a worn disc is something to sort out at home.
Fitment and Compatibility
The DKS053 appears on Accossato's list for the Multistrada V2 S from 2022 to 2024, next to the DK053 with its thinner ring. Do not mix them: the left and right discs of the V2 S should be of one type. As the Multistrada V2 S runs two discs at the front, two are needed; make sure the hub faces are clean, and use the torque values from Ducati's documentation for the bolts.
Road Approval
Our listing of the DKS053 is for circuit and competition use, because neither a type approval nor a German ABE has been documented.
Scope of Delivery
One DKS053 front disc with black carrier; two are required for the Multistrada V2 S.
