DescriptionThe whole story▼
Deep ruts are where the rear brake of a KTM 150 SX earns its keep. Entering a rutted turn, a light drag on the rear brake settles the bike, keeps the rear wheel in the groove and stops the chassis pitching forward onto the front. Accossato's disc for that work is the DK018, listed for the 150 SX from 2009 to 2022: a fixed, one-piece steel rear disc from the company's off-road range, with a diameter of 220 mm.
Key Features
- Rear disc for the KTM 150 SX, 2009 to 2022
- Fixed off-road disc made from a single steel piece
- 220 mm outer, 110 mm inner diameter
- 4 mm thickness
- Replaces the original rear disc
- Minimum thickness printed on the disc
- No German ABE; for motocross
Construction and Material Quality
The DK018 is as plain as a brake disc gets: one piece of steel with the pad track on the outside and the fixing area on the inside, no rivets in between, 4 mm thick and open to 110 mm at the centre. When Accossato talks about its discs in general, it names Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3 as the source of its experience and highlights precise tolerances and a careful choice of raw material. As on every Accossato disc, the minimum working thickness is printed on it.
Dragging Into the Rut
The classic rut technique goes like this: do the hard slowing on the straight, then as the bike drops into the rut, come off the front brake and keep a light pressure on the rear, just enough to hold the chassis steady while you turn in. The rear brake is not stopping the bike here so much as controlling its attitude, and the pressure is held for longer than anywhere else on the lap. That puts heat into the rear disc, especially on a slow, rutted track late in the day.
Heat leaves marks on a steel disc. A straw-yellow or bluish tint on the pad track means it has been very hot; if the pedal feels soft or the brake inconsistent at that point, give the system time to cool and check the fluid. Look at the rear disc after every ride: the pad track should be evenly worn across its full width, and the thickness comfortably above the minimum Accossato prints on the disc.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DK018 for the KTM 150 SX from 2009 to 2022 as a straight swap for the original rear disc. For the front it names the DK017 and the DK259 over the same years. With the rear wheel of the 150 SX out, look at the bearings and at chain and sprockets as well; refit the wheel, check the chain adjustment, and pump the pedal a few times before you ride.
Road Approval
Without a German ABE or a documented type approval, the DK018 is a competition part. The 150 SX has no road registration anyway.
Scope of Delivery
One DK018 rear disc on its own, with no pads or bolts.
