DescriptionThe whole story▼

Smaller sportsbikes like the R3 often become a household's second motorcycle, shared between a partner learning the ropes and an experienced rider who takes it out for a quick blast, and that kind of shared ownership means the bike is handled by more than one set of habits. A rider unfamiliar with exactly where this particular bike's weight sits, or how its side stand behaves on a slight incline, is more likely to misjudge a parking spot than the bike's usual owner. Accossato lists its TP077 crash pads for the R3 of 2015 to 2018.

Key Features

  • Crash pads for the Yamaha R3, 2015 to 2018
  • Accossato TP077, two pads per pack
  • CNC-machined aluminium body
  • Anodised insert in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold
  • Matching screw cover available as an option
  • PF064 front axle sliders also listed for this bike
  • Ask us before ordering whether drilling is needed
  • No German ABE on file; for racing and competition use

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato machines the TP077 body from aluminium and fits an anodised insert in a choice of six colours, with a matching screw cover offered for those who order it. Two pads make up the pack. Positioned close to the frame of the R3, they are designed to take the first contact if the bike tips over at a standstill, which can spare the frame and the fairing edges nearby some of that impact. They are wear items, and a pad that shows a hard scrape should be replaced.

A Shared Bike, Two Sets of Habits

When an R3 passes between two riders of different experience and build, small habits that feel automatic to one person, such as exactly how far to lean the bike onto its stand or which way to turn the bars before walking away, do not always transfer to the other. A less experienced rider borrowing the bike for a short trip may park it on a slope that the usual owner would have avoided instinctively, or may not notice that the stand has settled into softer ground than it looks. None of this is anyone's fault in particular; it is simply the cost of a bike learning two different riders' instincts rather than one. If the R3 does tip over because of a parking choice like this, the crash pads take the first contact; check them, the mirror and the lever before the next ride.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato's list gives the TP077 for the R3 across 2015 to 2018, and our listing follows those years. The same code also covers the Kawasaki ZX-6R and the Yamaha YZF-R25 in our shop. At the front, the PF064 sliders are available for this bike. Accossato notes that drilling the fairing is required on some motorcycles, so please ask us before ordering whether your R3 needs it.

Road Approval

No ABE or test mark is on file for the TP077, so we offer it for racing and competition use.
