DescriptionThe whole story▼

Yamaha built the first MT-09 with surprisingly little bodywork to protect, which makes the frame itself an easy target in a low-speed fall, and plenty of owners discover that the hard way while squeezing the bike into a bicycle shed or a cramped side passage built long before anyone imagined a motorcycle this wide needing to fit through. Accossato lists its TP063 crash pads for the early MT-09, covering 2013 to 2016.

Key Features

  • Crash pads for the Yamaha MT-09, 2013 to 2016
  • Accossato TP063, two pads per pack
  • CNC-machined aluminium body
  • Anodised insert in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold
  • Matching screw cover available as an option
  • PF040, PF055 axle sliders and PP080 rear sliders also listed for this bike
  • Ask us before ordering whether drilling is needed
  • No German ABE on file; for track and competition use

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato machines the TP063 body from aluminium and fits an anodised insert in a choice of six colours, with a matching screw cover offered as an extra. Two pads make up the pack. With little fairing to speak of on this generation of the bike, the pads sit close to the frame and are designed to be the first thing that meets the ground in a tip-over, which can reduce the damage to the frame rails directly behind them. They are wear items, and a pad that has clearly absorbed a knock should be replaced.

Squeezing Into a Narrow Side Passage

Older houses and terraces were rarely built with a motorcycle this wide in mind, and a side passage or a bicycle shed doorway that looked adequate when the bike was bought can turn out to leave only a few centimetres of clearance on either handlebar. Pushing the bike through such a gap in the dark, often tired after a long ride, invites exactly the kind of low-speed clip that tips a bike rather than crashing it outright. A pannier rail, a wing mirror or simply an awkward angle against a brick doorframe can be enough. Walking the bike through slowly, with the bars straightened as much as the space allows, reduces the risk, though it rarely removes it completely in a passage built for pedestrians rather than motorcycles. If the bike does catch the doorframe and go over, the crash pads take that first contact; check them before wheeling it the rest of the way in.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato's application list gives the TP063 for the MT-09 across 2013 to 2016, and our listing follows those years. The same code also covers the Tracer 900 and the Tracer 900 GT in our shop. At the front, either the PF040 or PF055 sliders apply depending on year, and the PP080 rear sliders are also listed for this model. Accossato notes that drilling the fairing may be needed on some motorcycles, so please ask us before ordering whether your MT-09 requires it.

Road Approval

No ABE or test certificate is on file for the TP063, so we offer it for racing and competition use.
