DescriptionThe whole story▼

With its upgraded suspension, the Speed Triple 1050 R invites a more aggressive riding style than the standard bike, and some owners lean into that by treating kerbs, raised manhole covers and the odd supermoto-style hop at junctions as part of the fun rather than something to avoid. That playfulness carries a cost: a kerb taken at the wrong angle, or a landing that comes down harder than planned, can tip the bike before the rider has time to react. Accossato lists its TP043 crash pads for the Speed Triple 1050 R, spanning 2012 to 2017.

Key Features

  • Anodised insert in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold
  • Matching screw cover available as an option

  • Ask us before ordering whether drilling is required
  • No German ABE on file; for racing and competition use

Construction and Material Quality

Each TP043 pad is machined from aluminium and finished with a coloured anodised insert, available in six shades, with a matching screw cover offered for those who want one. Two pads come in the pack. Mounted near the frame of the Speed Triple 1050 R, they are there to be the first point of contact if a kerb or a rough landing tips the bike over, which can spare the frame some of that impact. They are wear items by design, and a pad showing a deep mark from such a knock should be replaced.

Kerbs, Manhole Covers and a Playful Riding Style

Treating a naked bike like the Speed Triple 1050 R as a toy for kerb hops and tight, aggressive manoeuvring is tempting given the chassis underneath it, but kerbs and street furniture are unforgiving of a misjudged angle. A front wheel that catches a kerb edge square rather than at a shallow angle can stop dead, pitching the bike forward; a raised manhole cover met at speed can unsettle the suspension enough to end a wheelie or a stoppie badly. None of this needs a racetrack to go wrong, which is part of why so many such knocks happen on ordinary streets rather than circuits. If the Speed Triple 1050 R does go over during one of these moments, the crash pads are there to take the first contact ahead of the frame; check them, together with the footrests and levers, before riding on.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato's list gives the TP043 for the Speed Triple 1050 R across 2012 to 2017, and our listing follows those years. The same code also covers the standard Speed Triple 1050. For the front of this bike, the PF03 sliders are available. Accossato notes that some motorcycles need the fairing drilled for these pads, so please ask us before ordering whether your Speed Triple 1050 R needs it.

Road Approval

As no ABE or test certificate has been supplied for the TP043, we list it for track and competition use.
