DescriptionThe whole story▼
Many a Monster 796 is now with its second or third owner. The model arrived for 2010 with an air-cooled two-valve twin and the classic Monster shape. A used Monster often carries its history on the levers: a bent tip from a tip-over, scratches from years of parking, a reach that suited somebody else's hands. Accossato's EDB012 is a new front brake lever for the 2010 to 2015 Monster 796, machined from aluminium and adjustable in its distance from the grip.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the Monster 796, 2010 to 2015
- Mounts on the original master cylinder
- Adjustable reach to the grip
- Three lengths, the standard one approximately 138 mm
- CNC-machined aluminium, anodised in two tones
- Black hub, blade in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green
- No folding joint, rigid from hub to tip
- Sold for track use, no German ABE is documented
Construction and Material Quality
A replacement lever should improve on the part it replaces. Accossato cuts the EDB012 out of solid aluminium on CNC machines instead of casting it, which gives the blade clean edges and a uniform section, and anodises it afterwards. Every version has a black hub around the pivot and the reach setting, while the blade is coloured to order. The lever is rigid throughout, so the new lever itself adds no play to the front brake of an older Monster 796.
Refreshing a Used Monster
When you buy a second-hand Monster 796, the levers are worth a close look. A blade tip that has been bent or filed, deep scratches along the outer edge, or a lever sitting at an odd angle all suggest the bike has been down at some point, and a damaged lever can have sharp edges or a worn pivot. Replacing it is one of the simplest ways to make the cockpit feel like your own.
Choose the colour to suit the bike as it is now: black or silver for a discreet, original look, red or gold if you want the lever to stand out. Then set the reach for your own hands rather than living with the setting of the previous owner.
Fitment and Compatibility
There are two entries for the Monster 796 in Accossato's list, one spanning 2010 to 2015 and one 2011 to 2014, and both lead to this lever. The clutch side is covered by the ESD022, listed for the same 2010 to 2015 Monster 796. The later Monster 797 and Monster 821 have product pages of their own.
Road Approval
The EDB012 has no German ABE on record and is therefore sold for track use.
