DescriptionThe whole story▼
The S1000R put the RR's four-cylinder engine into a roadster that many owners ride for most of the year, and a year of riding usually means more than one pair of gloves. A thin summer glove and a padded winter one put your fingertips in different places, yet the original lever sits in the same spot for both. The Accossato EDF022 is a machined aluminium replacement for the brake lever of the 2013 to 2019 S1000R with an adjustable distance to the grip, so the lever can follow the glove you are wearing.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the original master cylinder of the S1000R, 2013 to 2019
- Adjustable distance between blade and grip
- Short, standard or long blade, the standard one about 138 mm
- CNC-machined from solid aluminium, anodised finish
- Hub always black, blade in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green
- One-piece fixed blade, no folding mechanism
- Packed in a dedicated Accossato box
- Road approval: none documented, for track use
Construction and Material Quality
The lever begins as a solid aluminium blank that Accossato mills to shape in its CNC workshop in Piedmont and then anodises. The hub stays black on every version, while the blade carries the colour. On a roadster without a fairing that combination matters, because both levers are in full view from the saddle. As a fixed design, the blade has no hinge, and the force from your fingers travels through one continuous piece of metal into the master cylinder.
Gloves, Seasons and Shared Bikes
The adjuster near the pivot changes how far the blade stands from the grip. When the padded gloves come out in spring and autumn, moving the blade outwards stops it from pressing on your fingers before you have even started to brake. In summer, with thin gloves, bring it back in so that the first contact comes early and precisely. The same adjustment helps when two people share one S1000R: a partner with smaller hands can bring the lever closer without changing anything else on the bike, and the setting is quickly reversed at the roadside.
Which Length on a Roadster
For everyday riding on the S1000R, the standard blade is closest to the original lever and suits most hands. The long version gives gloved fingers more to hold and a touch more leverage, a sensible option for riders who brake with the whole hand. The short one is intended for two-finger braking and is mostly chosen by owners who also take the roadster to track days.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists this lever for the S1000R from the 2013 to the 2019 model year, the first generation of BMW's roadster. The redesigned S1000R of 2021 onwards is not on the list. For the clutch side, Accossato makes the ESB22H for S1000R bikes built from 2015 to 2019.
Road Approval
Accossato supplies no German ABE for the EDF022, and none is documented, so the lever is offered for use on closed circuits.
