This generation of Speed Triple has only been built since 2021, so most of them are still inside the dealer network — and for a machine that young the question holding up an intake purchase is rarely about filtration. It is what the change does to the service book. For the Sprint Filter SM221S the answer is: nothing that has to be argued about, because nothing around the intake is altered. The airbox keeps its lid, its inlet and the geometry it was signed off with. A dry woven polyester element sits where the paper panel sat, and it lifts back out at the next service in minutes.
Key Features
- A single woven layer of dry polyester, threads from ø 22 microns, filtration calibrated to 80 µm
- Rated at 5,050 l/m²/sec — the medium Sprint Filter designates for road and track use
- Never oiled, so no film can travel downstream to the air sensor or the throttle bodies
- Roughly twice the working surface of a conventional performance element, in the standard housing
- A direct replacement in the unmodified airbox: nothing cut, nothing packed out, no remap
- Cleaned and refitted instead of consumed, with two years of warranty from the date of purchase
What a workshop would find
The reason the question exists is that most intake work earns it. An open filter, a removed inlet or a different box changes what the engine is fed, and the fuelling is then expected to be brought back into line. A panel element filling the same aperture as the one it replaces does none of that. Sprint Filter's two years cover this part and not the motorcycle, and no accessory listing can speak for Triumph's own terms; if you want that settled, it is one line at the service desk. What can be said without hedging is that the part lifts straight back out and leaves nothing behind it.
And what it will not do
It will not make the bike noticeably stronger. A drop-in element in a standard airbox cannot do that to a homologated triple, and a listing that promises it is selling a wish. Airflow figures describe what a square metre of cloth can pass, not what an engine will make of it. The real change is smaller and duller: an intake restriction that starts low and is returned to that same value at every cleaning, instead of one that only ever moves in one direction until a part is bought.
Care and cleaning
Ordinary service for the SM221S is compressed air held against the clean face and blown outwards, so what the weave stopped leaves by the side it arrived from. After a filthy stretch, wash it in lukewarm water with a little mild detergent and rinse until the water runs clear. Let it dry completely in moving air — never on a radiator, never with a hot air gun, never near a flame — and refit it dry, with nothing applied to it. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Cut for the standard airbox of the Triumph Speed Triple RS, 2021 to 2026. Two machines share this part number: the RS and the Speed Triple RR of the same years, which carries a half fairing over the same platform and the same intake. Both are listed in the Fitment tab.
