How Öhlins Makes Them
Öhlins publishes recommended sag figures for its springs, so the setup has a reference rather than a feel. Production has stayed in Sweden since the company was founded in 1976. Materials read unremarkably on paper — aluminium, steel, nitrogen — and the difference lies in how precisely they are made.

Rate and the Linkage
Static sag at the rear sets the whole chassis attitude — get it wrong and the front geometry goes with it. Rear spring rate sets ride height and static sag, and those two decide the chassis attitude before any damping click matters. The damper can only control the spring it is given; the wrong rate makes every setting a compromise.
Applications
Öhlins offers rates in defined steps so a change can be made in one direction at a time rather than by guesswork. This is a service part in the proper sense — it wears, it settles, and replacing it restores what the suspension was designed to do. A workshop will pick this spring from its dimensions and the rider's weight, not from a fitment table.
What Fitting Involves
Öhlins supplies a setting sheet with the springs; the numbers on it assume the specified oil. Note the original oil level before draining — it is a useful reference even when Öhlins specifies its own. Once fitted, ride the machine before making damping changes: the new rate alters what the clicks do.
Road Approval
Road approval: no separate certificate. The spring changes the rate, not the construction of the fork, and is treated as a service part.
