Replacing a piston is a workshop job because the shim stack has to be rebuilt in the correct order. A scored piston face means oil bypasses the shims entirely. Port area and shim seat geometry decide the damping curve before any adjuster is touched.

Original Öhlins Part

Rebuilding to specification only works if the parts are to specification — that starts here. A damper that can be rebuilt is a damper that stays on the bike; that is the whole argument for original service parts. For a full rebuild, the seal kit plus the wear parts is usually the sensible order. Service parts are ordered per piece unless stated otherwise.

Identifying the Right Part

The reliable route is the exploded drawing: find the position, read the number, order it — 05273-18 in this case. dimension a 1 mm, dimension b 10.5 mm is what distinguishes this number from its neighbours in the range. Jets meter fixed bleed flow and are sized in tenths of a millimetre. Needle geometry sets the shape of the adjustable range, not just its size.

Fitting and Setup Service

If you would rather not open the damper yourself, we can do it — we are an authorised Öhlins service centre and rebuild these units as a matter of routine.

Specifications

Brand: Öhlins

Part Number: 05273-18

Category: Jets

Dimension A: 1 mm

Dimension B: 10.5 mm

Thread: M7x1

Country of Origin: Sweden

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0949/7831/0410/files/05273-18_11629b3c-c720-4537-9e06-ae5bc028aa3b.png?v=1788876497
