Where It Sits
Dimensionally this is 31 mm, 41.5 mm, which is how it is told apart from the rest of the range. Inner tubes carry a low-friction coating; once it is through, the seals wear quickly. Axle clamps and lower legs are machined to hold the axle without distorting the fork. Öhlins fork parts are specific to the fork model, not interchangeable across the range.
Why the Original
Öhlins supports its suspension with individual service parts, which is why a fifteen-year-old damper can still be rebuilt to specification. Öhlins keeps service parts available for units long after they leave the current price list. Öhlins numbers do not follow a logic you can guess — always read them from the documentation. Tell us the damper's model designation and year and we will match the number for you.
How to Be Sure It Fits
01438-02 is the Öhlins number for this position — the same one printed in the service documentation. dimension a 31 mm, dimension b 41.5 mm is what distinguishes this number from its neighbours in the range. Outer tubes hold the bushings and the seal head, so their bore finish matters as much as the inner tube's outside. A marked inner tube destroys seals repeatedly until it is replaced.
Fitting and Setup Service
We are an authorised Öhlins service centre, so you do not have to source the tools and the nitrogen: send us the damper and we rebuild it with the correct parts and the correct setting.
