DescriptionThe whole story▼
Engineered from aerospace-grade aluminium with hard-anodised, super-finished internal surfaces, the K-Tech 25IDS Open Cartridge Kit transforms the stock forks of the BMW S1000RR K46 (2009–2014) into a fully tuneable, competition-capable suspension platform. Every component reflects K-Tech's obsession with material quality and dimensional precision — this is not an upgrade you fit and forget, but one you feel on every corner exit.
Key Features
- 25mm Independent Damping System (25IDS) — compression and rebound circuits are tuned entirely independently for surgical precision
- Aerospace-grade aluminium construction with hard-anodised, super-finished bores for reduced friction and long service life
- 24 clicks of independent compression adjustment and 30 clicks of independent rebound adjustment
- Increased travel compared to the OEM cartridge, improving stroke capacity for road and track use
- Designed as a direct fit for the original BMW S1000RR fork legs — no modification to the fork tubes required
- Compatible with the full K-Tech 36-260 spring range, available separately to suit rider weight and riding style
Build Quality and Materials
The 25IDS cartridge body is machined from aircraft-specification aluminium alloy and treated to a hard-anodised finish that has been super-finished to minimise stiction. This surface treatment directly improves damping consistency across the full stroke, eliminating the micro-stiction that causes vague feedback through the bars. The result is a fork that responds accurately to track irregularities without the harsh edge associated with stiffer OEM valving.
The independent compression and rebound circuits sit at the heart of the 25IDS design. Because the two damping forces are hydraulically isolated, adjusting one has no unintended effect on the other — a critical advantage when dialling in settings lap by lap or adapting to changing road surfaces. The 24-click compression and 30-click rebound range give a level of granularity that rivals cartridge kits fitted as standard equipment to significantly more expensive machines.
Performance and Setup Guidance
K-Tech supplies a baseline setup for the S1000RR fitment: oil/air cap at 135 mm, compression at 12 clicks, rebound at 18 clicks, and preload at 8 mm. These figures serve as a proven starting point; riders can work outward from this baseline using the wide adjustment range to suit personal preference, track surface or load. The increased stroke of 125 mm over the OEM cartridge length provides additional compliance where the standard unit runs out of travel under braking.
Because correct spring selection is fundamental to achieving the full potential of the 25IDS system, matching springs from the 36-260 series must be ordered separately. K-Tech recommends installation by an authorised K-Tech Service Centre to ensure correct fluid levels, preload settings and bleed procedure.
Fitment and Compatibility
This cartridge kit is designed and tested specifically for the following model:
- BMW S1000RR K46 — model years 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014
