The maker's name is cut into the face. Mechanically it matches the plain body exactly and the choice comes down to whether an owner wants the part identifiable.
Pikes Peak
Ducati built a Pikes Peak version of the 1200 S with Öhlins, carbon and a specific livery, commemorating a run of victories on the mountain. It is the most collectable Multistrada of the generation.
Skyhook Damping
The S reads the chassis continuously and adjusts. On a motorcycle that carries a passenger and luggage one week and nothing the next, that removes a setup decision entirely.
Housing Only
The switch block is unaffected. This part replaces the throttle assembly, which is the appropriate purchase when the switchgear is healthy.
A Cut Bore
Machined rather than formed, so the tube stays concentric across touring mileage. Ride-by-wire means the engine reads the same consistency the hand feels.
One Finish
Black anodised, converted into the surface. It survives what a bike ridden through winters actually meets.
Ergal 7075
Aerospace grade at roughly twice the strength of ordinary machined alloy. A loaded adventure bike puts considerably more through the handlebar than it appears to.
A Full Colour Display
The S carried a TFT screen with cornering lights and a comprehensive menu structure. In 2015 that specification belonged to considerably more expensive motorcycles.
Engraved, Not Printed
Cut into the anodised layer, the mark neither fades nor lifts. A decade of gloves and weather leaves it exactly as it started.
Thirty Thousand Kilometres, Then a Valve Check
The DVT engine kept the long service interval that had already transformed Ducati ownership, on a motorcycle that genuinely covers that distance in a couple of seasons. For anyone using a Multistrada the way it was designed to be used, the maintenance schedule is a more relevant specification than the power output.
