Staggered Bolts
The second of Ducati's two clamp arrangements. It is invisible in a catalogue photograph and immediately obvious the moment a screw refuses to reach its thread.
A Scrambler-Specific Body
The flat, high handlebar changes the cable exit angle completely. This block is drawn around that geometry rather than being a general fit pressed into service.
Ducati Sells the Whole Thing
There is no smaller part in the catalogue because the switches are moulded into the shell. A single failed contact therefore retires the entire assembly.
Corrosion Takes a Year
Oxidation on a terminal builds resistance gradually rather than breaking a circuit. The function degrades across months, which is why the fault is tolerated for so long.
Repeatable Dimensions
A machining programme produces identical parts indefinitely. Moulding tools wear, and two blocks with the same number can sit noticeably differently on a bar.
Legends That Vanish
Printed markings on a moulded shell fade under ultraviolet within a few summers. There is nothing printed on a machined body, so nothing is lost to the sun.
Cornering ABS on a Retro
Ducati fitted a Bosch inertial platform to a motorcycle styled around 1970s desert sleds. The contrast is deliberate and it is why the 1100 works as well as it does.
Eighty-Six Horsepower
From 1079 cc, deliberately softened. The Scrambler 1100 is about character and torque rather than about output, and Ducati never pretended otherwise.
The End of a Line
No manufacturer will build a new large air-cooled twin again. That has already made the 1100 more interesting to own than it was when it was new.
Dressed Down, Specified Up
The Scrambler 1100 looks like a simple motorcycle and is not. Between the Brembo calipers, the inertial platform and a properly substantial trellis, the gap between how it presents itself and what it actually carries is the largest in the Ducati range.
