Staggered, and How to Tell
The two mounting bolts sit off one another rather than in line. Undo the existing block, look at where the screws enter the clamp, and the question is settled in half a minute.
Dust Is Worse Than Rain
Water eventually dries out of a joint. Fine road grit does not; it works past a clipped cover, settles against a terminal and stays there for the remaining life of the component.
Heavier, Slightly
A billet body usually weighs a little more than the plastic it replaces. Nobody buys this for weight and it is worth saying so rather than pretending the opposite.
Contacts Beyond Road Specification
The elements inside are sealed to a standard well past what a motorcycle asks for. On a bike that goes out in February because it is the only one in the garage, that margin is the point.
A Tool Costs More Than a Programme
An injection mould is a large fixed investment that only pays back across enormous volumes. A machining programme costs almost nothing to change, which is why small runs exist at all.
The Bar End Takes It
When a motorcycle goes over in a car park the handlebar hits first and the switch block is next along. A moulded shell cracks at the clip line; a milled one scuffs and carries on.
Ducati's Volume Model
The 821 outsold everything else in the range for years because it was enough motorcycle for most riders. The engine simply does not break, which is why so many are still in daily use.
A Hundred and Nine Horsepower
Tuned for the middle of the range rather than the top. Ducati has always known this bike is ridden in traffic and specified it accordingly.
Steel, Still
The trellis survived here long after Ducati's superbikes had abandoned frames entirely. Heavier than aluminium and it is what a Monster is supposed to look like.
