Everything Reached From the Left
Modes, traction, wheelie control and the display. Ducati put the entire interface on this side and on a bike ridden daily those contacts age faster than anything else.
Nothing Printed on the Surface
So nothing fades. The markings on a moulded shell are applied rather than moulded in and they are usually the first thing to go on a Monster kept outdoors.
Cut Threads
The fasteners bite into aluminium rather than into a plastic boss. They take a proper torque and they survive being worked repeatedly across the life of the bike.
Following the Tube
A machined clamp meets the handlebar across its whole radius rather than at high points. The load spreads and the block stays exactly where it was fitted.
Salt Over Several Winters
Water dries out of a joint; road salt does not. It sits against a terminal and works on it for years before anything is noticed at the handlebar.
Back to Standard Quickly
Nothing is spliced into the loom, so the factory block returns in twenty minutes. On a motorcycle sold as often as a Monster that is worth keeping straightforward.
Where the Weight Went
Eighteen kilograms came out when the trellis was replaced by an aluminium front frame, and none of it came from deleting equipment. It is the slow and expensive route to a light motorcycle.
A Narrower Waist
Ducati reshaped the tank so a shorter rider can get both feet down. It reads as a small change and it is the reason a great many people bought this Monster rather than looking elsewhere.
Thirty Years of Sales
The Monster has outsold everything else Ducati makes since 1993. Changing its frame was a genuine commercial risk and the figures since have settled the argument fairly conclusively.
