A Hundred and Fifty-Three Horsepower
Enough to be genuinely fast and considerably less alarming than the V4. On a road it is the quicker of the two more often than owners admit.
Homologation
The system is part of the motorcycle's approval where it is fitted, and removing it moves the machine into competition use in those markets.
On a Naked Ducati
The top of the engine is part of what the motorcycle looks like, and a milled cover reads as deliberate where a capped hose reads as unfinished.
Sold Separately for a Reason
Some owners want only the fault gone; others want the whole system out. Ducati's arrangement allows both without forcing a choice.
On a V4
Ducati packages four cylinders into a very compact space, and access to anything on the rear bank means the tank and the airbox out of the way.
The Airbox Element Tells You
Its condition shows whether the reeds have been passing gas the wrong way, and it is the cheapest diagnosis available anywhere on the system.
A Repair Wearing Another Name
On any Ducati past its first decade the reed housing has limited working life left. Fitting aluminium removes a job that was coming rather than merely deleting an emissions device, which is why the argument is strongest on older machines and weakest on new ones.
Refitting Years Later
Because the cover seals on a ring rather than a gasket, the head face is exactly as it was when the standard housing goes back on. That is the property that makes an emissions inspection a formality rather than a gamble, and it is worth more than the cover itself.
