Ohlins at the Rear
A fully adjustable unit that changes how the Z1100 behaves on a broken surface more than any other single component on the bike.
Not a Performance Part
The valve is shut at any meaningful throttle opening. Removing it frees nothing and anybody selling it as a power modification is misrepresenting what it does.
An Ageing Solenoid
On older Kawasakis the valve itself fails, producing exactly the fault an owner creates by removing it. A fair number of these are fitted as repairs rather than modifications.
Warranty on a Current Bike
Removing emissions equipment gives a dealer grounds to decline a related claim, which is worth weighing before ordering rather than after something fails.
Sold Alongside Exhausts
Dealers who fit silencers know what the next question will be, which is why the two parts so often leave the shelf in the same order.
What the Unit Is
A resistance matched to the coil, potted in a sealed body with the correct connector moulded on. There is nothing to adjust and no way to fit it incorrectly.
Why Every Modern Four Has One
Emissions cycles measure what leaves the pipe rather than what happens inside the cylinder, so burning the residue afterwards is a legitimate way to pass the test. It costs the manufacturer very little and it costs the rider nothing except a noise nobody asked for.
A Component With No Service Interval
Kawasaki never specifies replacement for the solenoid, which means the first anybody hears about it is a warning on the display. On older machines the valve failing by itself is at least as common as an owner removing it deliberately.
