Divisive at Launch
Reviewers praised the engine and questioned the chassis, and it took Ducati two model years to answer them. The 1199 remains the most argued-about Panigale.
The Smallest Lamp on the Motorcycle
It illuminates the registration plate and nothing else, and Ducati monitors it exactly as carefully as the headlight. Very few owners know it has its own circuit.
Reversible
Refit the bracket and the lamp, unplug the eliminator, and the circuit behaves exactly as it did before anything was changed.
Not a Weight Saving
The lamp weighs nothing. This part exists so that a cosmetic change does not leave a permanent warning on the dashboard.

Why the Lamp Circuit Is Monitored At All
Number plate illumination is a legal requirement almost everywhere, and the legislation behind it expects a failed lamp to be reported to the rider rather than discovered by an officer. Ducati's body controller therefore watches the current the circuit draws and reports anything substantially lower than the standard bulb as a failure, without ever knowing whether light is being produced.
Why the Plate Lamp Is Watched Separately
Ducati's body controller treats each lighting circuit as its own item, because the legislation behind them does. That is why a machine with a tail tidy can show one warning and a machine with an LED tail unit can show a different one, and why clearing the first has no effect at all on the second.
