The JP ES 016 answers the plate light circuit on the Monster 821, so an LED unit that draws almost nothing no longer reads as a burnt-out bulb.

Not the Tail Light
Anybody removing both will need two answers, because Ducati measures the two circuits independently and raises a separate code for each.
Where the Lamp Sits
Moulded into the plate bracket on most of the range, which is why removing the bracket removes the lamp and there is no separate part to keep.
The Commonest Ducati Modification
A shorter plate hanger is the first thing a great many owners fit, which is why this part sells in the numbers it does.
Kept in the Parts Box
The hanger and its lamp take up very little room, and having them is the entire cost of being able to change your mind.

Not a Universal Resistor
Ducati's connector and load are specific, and a generic solution requires cutting. That single difference is what makes the proper part worth buying.
A Clean Instrument Panel
The practical argument is not tidiness for its own sake. A live warning sits in front of the next one and hides it, so the dashboard stops being useful exactly when it matters most. Clearing a known, deliberate change keeps the panel meaningful for the faults nobody planned.
What the Load Actually Is
The circuit expects the current a small filament lamp draws, which is a fraction of an amp rather than anything dramatic. That is why the eliminator is a small sealed body rather than a heatsink, and why mounting it sensibly is a matter of tidiness rather than of thermal management.
