The JP ES 002 clears the charcoal canister out of the Desert X and provides the tank vent that has to replace it, which is the part nobody should improvise.

A Twenty-One Inch Front
Ducati built a genuine off-road adventure bike rather than a tall road one, with spoked wheels and 230 millimetres of travel at the front.
The Tank Still Breathes
Fuel drawn out has to be replaced by air coming in, so the kit supplies a proper vent fitting rather than leaving a hose to find its own way.
An Open Hose Is Not Equivalent
It works until the motorcycle is transported on its side or dropped, and then it demonstrates precisely why a proper fitting exists.
The Purge Valve's Failure Mode
When the bed is saturated it delivers liquid fuel rather than vapour into the inlet tract, which is why a flooded canister produces a rich, uneven idle.
The Cost Comparison
A replacement canister costs several times what an eliminator kit does, and it will saturate again in due course. Very few owners replace one twice.

Laying a motorcycle up over winter with the tank brimmed works the evaporative system for months with no engine running to clear it.
No Diagnostic Software Needed
Nothing here requires a dealer tool or manufacturer access. The circuit answer is passive and the mechanical work is a spanner job.
The Purge Valve Circuit
The controller monitors the solenoid that meters vapour into the intake, so removing the hardware without answering the circuit stores a fault and lights the panel. That electrical half is why this is a kit rather than a bag of blanking plugs.
Hoses Are Not All the Same
The lines between tank, canister and intake carry vapour rather than liquid fuel and are sized accordingly. Reusing one as a vent line because it happens to be the right length is the kind of shortcut that works until a hot day, and it is not worth the twenty minutes it saves.
