The JP ES 030 takes the K 1300 R's activated carbon filter off and closes the tank breather and purge circuit.

A Naked Inline Four
The same 1293 cc engine with no fairing and a wide bar, which produced one of the more absurd motorcycles BMW has ever sold. Owners were never in any doubt about what they had bought.
Nothing to Hide the Plumbing
Without bodywork the area behind the engine is completely exposed. A carbon canister and three lines are the least attractive thing on the motorcycle.
What the Carbon Does
Holds petrol vapour until a valve meters it into the intake. It exists to satisfy a test and contributes nothing to how the bike behaves.
Ruined by Overfilling
Topping up after the click forces liquid fuel into the bed. The result is hard starting and a rough idle, which on a bike this age is usually blamed on something else entirely.
Dust and Water
An open breather sitting behind the engine collects both. The supplied fitting is shaped to keep them out, which an amputated hose cannot do.
Answering the Check
The expected electrical load is presented, so the test passes and the display carries nothing at the next ignition cycle.
Shaft Drive and 175 Horsepower
An unusual combination that BMW made work through sheer engineering effort. The Paralever arrangement keeps the shaft effects manageable at power levels that would otherwise be unpleasant.
Fifteen Years On
Connectors and hoses have both aged. A conversion that plugs in and cuts nothing is worth choosing over anything that splices into a brittle harness.
Reinstated for an Inspection
Where the system forms part of the approval, putting it back before a test is a straightforward afternoon rather than a workshop visit.
Nothing Hidden
The conversion is visible to anybody who looks under the tank, which is the correct way for a change like this to work.
What Is Removed
The vessel, its bracket, the purge valve and every line joining them to the tank and the intake.
