The M Naked and the Quarter Turn
BMW gave the M1000R 210 hp and no fairing, which produces a motorcycle that is quick to the point of comedy and demands a delicate right hand. Owners split on the throttle: some want the standard long action for control, others fit a quick unit to match the sharpness of the rest of the bike. This part exists for the second group.
Independent of the Throttle Tube
Because the switch clamps to the bar rather than to the tube, the choice of throttle can be revisited later without disturbing anything electrical. That is more useful on a new model than it sounds: the aftermarket around the M1000R is still developing, and locking the cockpit wiring to one supplier's throttle would be premature.
Contacts Built for Weather and Vibration
Military-grade switch elements are specified for sealing rather than for feel, though they give a firmer detent as a side effect. A naked bike offers its controls no protection at all, so the housing and the contacts inside it are the only barrier between the electrics and a wet motorway.
Titanium Against Carbon and Black
The M1000R's cockpit is a mix of matte black plastic and, on the Competition package, exposed carbon. Titanium anodising sits between the two without matching either exactly, which is the reason JetPrime settled on it as the single finish for this unit.
Fitting Around the Winglets
The M1000R's aerodynamic appendages sit well forward of the bars and do not interfere with the cockpit, but they do mean the bike spends more time at speeds where airflow reaches the hands. A compact switch block sited close to the grip is less exposed than a wide moulded housing, which is a marginal benefit and a real one at motorway pace.
A Straightforward Job
The old throttle assembly comes off with the grip, the new tube goes on, and the switch clamps to the bare bar beside it. The connector is the factory one, so nothing has to be traced back to the loom. It is an afternoon's work with hand tools rather than a wiring project.
