DescriptionThe whole story▼
The high-mounted route on the Euro 5 R nineT, and the honest headline is that this one is bought for how it looks. Peak power is unchanged at 104.7 PS, the gain is 0.8 PS at 7,000 rpm, and the weight saving is the smallest of the four nineT link pipes.

Why the Numbers Are Modest
BMW's Euro 5 mid-section already weighs 4.36 kg rather than the 8 kg of the pre-2021 part, and the engine is already breathing more freely. There is simply less left to gain, and Akrapovic does not pretend otherwise.
Compare with the pre-2021 high pipe, L-B12SO9T, which gives 4.1 PS on the older machine. Same part, same position, very different starting point.
The Pillion Pegs Come Off
Routing the silencer high puts the exhaust where a passenger's feet would go. Akrapovic states the passenger footpegs have to be removed, and that turns the R nineT into a solo motorcycle in practice.
If you carry a passenger, take L-B12SO10 and mount the silencer low. It is also lighter and considerably cheaper.
Approved Nonetheless
EC and ECE type approval are both in place. A high-mounted exhaust on a nineT looks like a race modification and is fully legal on European roads — keep the certificate with the vehicle documents.
Four Pipes for One Family
Akrapovic catalogues four link pipes for the R nineT: low and high, for the pre-2021 and the Euro 5 machines. They are not interchangeable, and the two things that decide which you need are the model year and where you want the silencer.
Get the year from the registration document. The bikes look nearly identical across the 2020 to 2021 change.
Thirty Minutes
Ten minutes longer than the low version, and the difference is the passenger footpegs and their brackets. A boxer's mid-section is otherwise in the open and needs nothing removed first.
Titanium, and What It Buys
1.56 kg for the price of a good set of tyres. On the Euro 5 R nineT that is the honest measure of this part, and it is why the low-mounted pipe is the better value for anyone not committed to the high-exhaust look.
Just Above Idle
The 1.2 Nm arrives at 2,650 rpm, which on an air-cooled boxer is barely above tickover. That is where an R nineT pulls away from a junction, and it is the one figure on this page a rider will feel in ordinary use.
Fitment and Compatibility
L-B12SO11 covers the BMW R nineT, Pure, Racer, Scrambler and Urban G/S from 2021 through 2023. Earlier machines take L-B12SO9T.
