DescriptionThe whole story▼
Few supersport machines have had a second life as complete as the Yamaha R6. After 2020 the road version left the European price lists, and the model carried on as a machine for circuits, which is where most of them had been spending their weekends anyway. Accossato's list mirrors that history with entries from 2001 to 2020 and again from 2022. The cap given for all of them is the FC124, machined from aluminium and closing with a quick-acting pawl.
Key Features
- Quick-release fuel tank cap for the Yamaha R6, 2001 to 2020 and 2022 to 2026
- Accossato lists the anniversary version of 2012 and the GYTR of 2022 onwards
- Aluminium body, machined on CNC equipment
- Quick-closing pawl for opening and shutting the tank
- Six pin colours: blue, green, black, red, silver, gold
- Pawl available separately as a spare
- Check which entry applies to your machine
- No German ABE documented; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Aluminium worked on CNC machines makes up the whole cap, and Accossato describes it as robust and durable with a design of its own. The quick-closing pawl is the working element, letting the R6's tank be opened with one hand and shut the same way, which matters on a machine that is refuelled several times in a day. Six colours are listed for the pin, chosen as the order is placed, and the pawl itself remains available as a single spare if it is ever damaged.
The Years After the Road Version
A model that continues without a registration document changes the questions an owner asks. Road approval stops being relevant, because the machine is not going to be ridden on a public road again, and the choice of parts is made purely on whether they help during a session. That is the situation a quick-release cap was designed for. It is also worth remembering that the same freedom brings responsibility: nobody is going to inspect the machine at a roadside check, so the standard of preparation is whatever the owner sets, plus whatever the organiser checks at the gate. Look over the R6 properly before each day, including the cap, and do not rely on somebody else noticing.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the YZF 600 R6 from 2001 to 2020, the anniversary version of 2012 and the GYTR from 2022 to 2026. Those entries are what this product covers. The same FC124 appears at Inter-Pace under the MT-07, the MT-09 and the FZ8. Match your machine against the application list before ordering.
Road Approval
No German ABE and no parts certificate are documented for the FC124, so it is supplied for closed circuits only. Any R6 still used on public roads should keep its original cap, which normally opens with the ignition key.
