DescriptionThe whole story▼
Supermoto tracks mix two surfaces, and the moment a rider leaves the tarmac for the dirt section is one of the trickiest on the lap. On a Kawasaki KLX 250 D-Tracker, the supermoto sister of the KLX 250 with road tyres on smaller wheels, the front brake that bites hard on asphalt suddenly has to be handled with care on loose soil. Accossato's B8145 is a folding front brake lever for the KLX 250 D-Tracker from 2008 to 2017, CNC-machined in Italy from Ergal 7075, with a joint that lets the blade fold forward in a crash.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the Kawasaki KLX 250 D-Tracker, 2008 to 2017
- Listed for the 2008–2016 bikes and the 2017 model
- Fits the original front brake master cylinder
- Short blade for a three-finger grip
- Anti-break joint lets the blade fold forward in a fall
- Machined in Italy from solid Ergal 7075
- Blade in black or green
- No German ABE documented; for track and off-road use, not public roads
Construction and Material Quality
The B8145 leaves Accossato's CNC machines in Italy as two separate parts, both milled from solid Ergal 7075. The company prefers this aluminium alloy for its high strength, which lets the lever be strong and reliable without adding weight. One part is a base with a dark finish, which fits onto the pivot of the D-Tracker's master cylinder and contains the joint; the other is the blade, black or green, which the joint allows to fold. The blade is the short brake type, made for three fingers.
Where the Tarmac Turns to Dirt
The transition needs planning. Most of the braking for the corner before the dirt section should be done on tarmac, where the road tyres grip well, so the bike enters the dirt at a speed it can carry without heavy braking. Once on the loose surface, the front brake is used lightly and progressively, if at all, while the rear brake and the rider's weight on the pegs steer the bike into slides. On the way back, tyres carry soil onto the tarmac, and the first stretch after the dirt section is often slippery; experienced riders brake gently there until the tyres have cleaned up.
Falls at the transition are common and usually happen at moderate speed: the front tyre slips on dusty tarmac or tucks on the dirt, and the KLX 250 D-Tracker slides on its side. The brake lever then hits either hard asphalt or packed ground, and both break solid levers readily. The B8145's joint gives the blade the possibility of folding forward rather than snapping, so the session can go on after a quick check. A lever that has folded should be inspected before the next hard stop, because on a supermoto track the next hard stop is never far away.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the B8145 for the Kawasaki KLX 250 D-Tracker in two entries, 2008 to 2016 and 2017 on its own, which together cover the years 2008 to 2017; it replaces the original lever on the stock front brake master cylinder. The C7127 folding clutch lever is listed only from 2008 to 2016, so the 2017 bike can be fitted on the brake side alone. Both levers come in black or green.
Road Approval
No German ABE is on record for the B8145. With it fitted, the road-registered KLX 250 D-Tracker is not approved for public roads; the lever is intended for supermoto tracks and closed off-road ground.
