DescriptionThe whole story▼
The MT-125 brought the look of Yamaha's larger MT models to the 125 class, and for many riders it was the first motorcycle with a manual gearbox they ever owned. A small single-cylinder engine is happiest when it is kept spinning, so the left hand and left foot are busy on every ride: more gear changes, more pulls on the clutch, more starts in traffic. The Accossato ESR15L is a CNC-machined aluminium clutch lever for the MT-125 of 2014 and 2015, with an adjustable distance to the grip.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Yamaha MT-125, 2014 to 2015
- Fits the original clutch mounting
- Adjustable reach, useful for smaller hands
- Standard blade approximately 138 mm; short and long in selected colours
- Aluminium, CNC-machined and anodised
- Hub black, blade in one of seven colours
- Rigid one-piece blade
Construction and Material Quality
Instead of being pressed or cast, the ESR15L is machined from aluminium on CNC equipment and then anodised. The hub, which contains the pivot and the reach adjuster, is always black, and the blade takes the colour you order. Anodising gives a hard surface that belongs to the metal itself, which helps on a bike that is often parked outside at school, college or work. The blade has no hinge. It is a single fixed piece, so there is no joint to develop play, however many thousand times the clutch is pulled.
Working the Gearbox on a 125
On a larger bike you can leave it in a high gear and let the engine pull. A 125 works differently. To keep up with traffic, and especially on hills or when passing a cyclist, the engine needs revs, which means changing down early and changing up often. Each of those changes is a pull of the clutch, and a new rider also spends a lot of time in the friction zone at junctions while getting to know the bike. Two things make this easier. The first is reach: many MT-125 riders are young, some with smaller hands, and bringing the blade closer to the grip lets the fingers cover the lever properly instead of catching it with the tips. The second is length. A long blade gives more leverage and a lighter pull, welcome when the clutch is in constant use, while the standard blade stays closest to the original and the short one is meant for riders who operate the clutch with two fingers. For learning clean, unhurried gear changes on the MT-125, a lever in the right place is a small but genuine help.
Fitment and Compatibility
The ESR15L is listed by Accossato for the MT-125 of the 2014 and 2015 model years, and it replaces the original lever at the stock clutch mounting. Accossato's list contains no brake lever for this model, so the clutch lever is offered on its own. Later MT-125 models are not part of the listing; a bike from 2016 or after is not covered.
Road Approval
For the ESR15L, no German ABE has been documented, and its sale is for the track.
