Shaft final drive removes the chain and its weekly ritual; hydraulic operation and long intervals take care of most of what is left. Look down the remaining list of things that are genuinely used up and thrown away on this motorcycle and it is a short one — which is what makes the air filter interesting. It is one of the last recurring purchases on a machine that was designed to have almost none, and it is the only one on that list that does not have to be a purchase at all.

Key Features

Single-layer woven polyester, run completely dry: 80 µm rating at 5,050 l/m²/sec

Never oiled, so there is no dosing step and nothing to reapply after cleaning

Replaces the paper panel in the standard airbox: no modification, no remapping

Around twice the working surface of a typical performance element

Retains 93.13 % of 100-micron particles, against 76.42 % for four-layer oiled cotton

Designed for the life of the motorcycle; two years' warranty from the date of purchase

Taking a line off the service list

A consumable is not only a cost, it is a dependency. It has to be in stock somewhere, ordered in time, and correct — and the moment it is not, a service that would have taken an hour waits a week. Removing an item from that list is worth more on a motorcycle that has already had most of its dependencies engineered away, because the few that remain stand out. The PM233S turns the filter line from supply-and-fit into remove-clean-refit, which needs a compressed-air line and nothing else, and can be done on the morning you decide to do it.

What it will not do

It will not make a standard Rocket 3 stronger. Nothing dropped into an unmodified airbox does, and an engine of this size is not short of anything that a filter medium could supply. The intake was homologated as a system, and the paper panel was not the part limiting it. What the element offers is a lower starting restriction that is restored at every clean rather than surrendered gradually until someone buys a replacement — the same condition, over and over, for as long as the motorcycle is kept.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air on the clean face, worked outwards, so that whatever the weave stopped leaves the way it arrived. Lukewarm water with a little mild detergent for anything that will not lift dry, rinsed until the water runs clear. Dry it in moving air at its own pace — never with heat, a hot air gun or any flame, since heat distorts the weave — and refit it completely dry, with nothing applied to it. The maintenance sheet for the PM233S is in the Downloads tab of this page.

Fitment & Compatibility

The P08 element for the Triumph Rocket 3, model years 2019 to 2026, covering the R and GT versions of the current machine. The earlier Rocket III built up to 2018 is a different motorcycle with a different airbox and takes its own element, so check the model year before ordering.
