DescriptionThe whole story▼
Two silencers on a 125. Akrapovic built this exhaust with twin conical mufflers because the Monkey's whole design language is about symmetry and roundness, and a single can hanging off one side would have looked like an afterthought.
Key Features
- Twin conical mufflers, shaped for the Monkey's character
- Stainless steel construction with titanium outer sleeves
- 1.9 kg against the standard 3.7 kg: 1.8 kg and 48.6 per cent less
- 0.8 Nm more at 3,700 rpm and 0.6 PS at 6,300 rpm
- Power gains through the entire rev range
- Removable noise insert included
- Thirty minutes to fit
Steel Inside, Titanium Outside
An unusual combination, and a sensible one on a machine like this. The muffler bodies are stainless steel — durable and cheap to form into a conical shape — with titanium sleeves over them, which is where the visible surface and the weight saving come from.
An all-titanium twin-muffler system would have cost considerably more for a motorcycle that costs about as much as a good set of leathers.
The Bike It Was Drawn For
Akrapovic describes the exhaust as perfectly matching the Monkey's unique character, which on most products would be filler. Here it is the specification: this is a motorcycle with no performance case at all, bought because it looks the way it looks, and an exhaust for it either fits that language or fails.
Complete the Look
The carbon heat shield P-HSH125R1 replaces the standard shield beside these mufflers. The two together change the entire right-hand side of the motorcycle, which on a Monkey is most of what anyone sees.
Twin Conical Mufflers
Two tapered silencers, one on each side, rather than the single box Honda fits. On a motorcycle whose entire design rests on symmetry — round headlight, round mirrors, a fuel tank shaped like a pebble — that decision matters more than the material choice does.
Eight Model Years
Honda has built the Monkey 125 with the same exhaust mounting since 2019, through the 2022 change to a five-speed gearbox. One exhaust covers the whole production run.
Where the Weight Went
3.7 kg of standard exhaust on a 107 kg motorcycle is three and a half per cent of the whole thing. Honda met the noise and emissions rules on a 125 the way everyone does — with a big steel box — and half of it comes off here.
Gains Across the Range
Akrapovic states power increases through the entire rev range, and the two published points bear it out: 0.8 Nm at 3,700 rpm and 0.6 PS at 6,300. On an engine that redlines around 8,500, both of those are inside the part of the band a Monkey actually uses.
Fitment and Compatibility
