DescriptionThe whole story▼

The Monster 797 was Ducati's plain-spoken naked twin: air-cooled, light on electronics and easy to live with when a bike has to work every weekday rather than only on dry Sundays. Use of that kind puts the front brake in front of every sort of weather there is, usually before breakfast. Accossato presses its AGPA177 front pad in the Sintered material and sells it as article AGPA177ST, describing the compound as holding a high and constant level of grip whether the discs are hot or cold, and as keeping its footing when they are wet. The listing covers 2017 to 2021.

Key Features

  • Front brake pads for the Ducati Monster 797, 2017 to 2021
  • Article AGPA177ST: the AGPA177 carrier pressed with the Sintered material
  • Accossato reports a steady grip level from cold discs and from hot ones
  • Wet faces are treated as ordinary running rather than as an exception
  • This Monster runs twin front discs, so the axle takes two boxes
  • Two pads to a box, the pair that one caliper closes onto
  • The identical carrier is also pressed in EV1, EV2 and ZXC
  • No German ABE on file; supplied for competition use

Construction and Material Quality

What the factory claims for this material is steadiness rather than a single peak. Grip arriving at the lever should sit near the same level at the first junction of the morning as it does after an hour of hard work, and a film of water on the disc should not rewrite the answer. Underneath sits the AGPA177 plate, common to every version of the article, so a rider choosing between suffixes is choosing a friction layer and nothing else. On a machine ridden through all four seasons, that sort of predictability counts for more than one impressive stop.

Every Weekday, Whatever the Sky Is Doing

An air-cooled twin of this size is a bike people genuinely ride in February. The Monster 797 goes to work in drizzle, stands outside for nine hours while the discs cool and collect grime, and is then asked for a firm stop at the first roundabout. None of that is dramatic, yet it is among the harder things to ask of a pad: full effect from stone cold, the same again two streets later, and again in traffic that never settles into a rhythm.

Small habits pay for themselves. Rinse the front end before winter salt dries onto it, since the caliper collects the same spray the pads do. Let the lever drag lightly as you pull away in rain, purely to wipe the faces before the first stop that matters. Renew both sides of the axle on the same afternoon instead of one caliper at a time, and once the fresh material is in, work the lever until it goes firm before the Monster 797 comes off the stand.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato's data sheet puts the AGPA177 at the front of the Monster 797 from 2017 through to 2021 and includes the 797 Plus of those same seasons. Because two calipers grip that wheel, one box does half the job. At the back of this Monster the catalogue shows the AGPP91 over the identical run of years, while the disc programme holds the DK008 and the DKS053 for the model. Anything built outside those five seasons falls outside this entry and needs a lookup of its own.

Road Approval

No German ABE and no test report for the AGPA177ST have reached us, which is why the pads are catalogued for racing and closed-course use rather than for the public highway.

Scope of Delivery

One box holding two AGPA177 pads in the Sintered material, the set for a single front caliper. A complete front change on the Monster 797 therefore calls for two boxes.
