DescriptionThe whole story▼
A big V-twin does not need revs to get going. On the Dorsoduro 1200 many riders change up early in town, letting the engine pull without chasing the rev counter and keeping noise and heat down, which turns every short trip into a string of quick, light clutch pulls. The Accossato ESC080 is a clutch lever for the 2010 to 2016 Dorsoduro 1200, CNC-machined from aluminium, with a reach adjuster and three blade lengths, so all those small movements start from a position that suits your hand.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 from 2010 to 2016
- Installed at the original clutch mounting
- Reach adjustable to bring the blade nearer to or further from the grip
- Three lengths: short, standard at about 138 mm, long
- Black hub; blade in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green
- CNC-machined aluminium with anodised finish
- Fixed, one-piece design without a folding joint
- No German ABE on record, sold for the track
Construction and Material Quality
Two areas of the ESC080 do two different jobs, and Accossato finishes them differently. The hub, which takes the pivot and the adjuster, is anodised black on every lever and sits discreetly beside the switchgear. The blade is where the colour shows and where your fingers work, and it is anodised in the shade you order. Both come from a single piece of aluminium shaped on CNC equipment rather than poured into a mould. No joint interrupts the blade, which keeps the take-up identical from the first pull of the day to the last.
Short-Shifting Through Town
Short-shifting means changing up well before the engine gets busy, and on the Dorsoduro 1200's twin it makes urban riding smoother and quieter. The price is more gear changes. Each one follows the same small routine: close the throttle, squeeze the clutch just far enough to free the gearbox, select the next gear, release and roll on. A lever that has to be chased with outstretched fingers turns that routine into a chore after a few kilometres of city streets.
Setting the reach closer means each pull begins sooner and needs less finger movement. After adjusting, check once with the engine running that the clutch still frees completely when the blade meets your fingers, because a lever set very close leaves less travel. Blade length changes the effort too: a longer blade puts your fingers further from the pivot and lightens the pull, a shorter one firms it up. In stop-and-go traffic the standard or long ESC080 is therefore the relaxed choice on the Dorsoduro 1200. The long blade comes in blue, gold, green and orange; black and red are made as standard levers only.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the ESC080 for the Dorsoduro 1200 with the model years 2010 to 2016, replacing the stock lever at the original clutch mounting. The same lever is named for the Caponord 1200 of 2014 to 2017, which uses the Dorsoduro's engine. For the front brake, the corresponding Accossato part is the EDB080, likewise listed for 2010 to 2016.
Road Approval
This clutch lever has no documented German ABE, so we sell it for racetrack use.
