Everything downstream of the air filter costs more than the air filter. Throttle bodies, an air-flow sensor, valve seats, bores and rings: the element is the cheapest item in that chain and the only one meant to be consumed. On a 1050XT the arithmetic gets sharper, because this is the version people load up and ride to places where the nearest workshop is a day away in the wrong direction. The Sprint Filter T12 PM253T12 is the finest medium the range offers — a dry polyester special non-woven filtering to 7 microns, specified for desert dust, off-road use and extreme conditions.

The fraction that does the damage

Coarse grit is not what wears an engine out. It is the fine mineral dust that stays suspended long after the cloud looks as though it has settled, and that is precisely the fraction a coarse weave lets by. Once it is past the element it goes wherever the air goes, and the bill for it does not arrive as a breakdown at the roadside but as a slow loss of compression years later, in a motorcycle with an impeccable service history. Sprint Filter's answer for that air is this medium, cut to the shape the V-Strom airbox wants. What you buy is a defined level of filtration in conditions the standard element was never asked to work in.

Paying for it in flow

None of that comes free. A finer medium retains more and passes less, in a straight line across the range: 80 microns and a rated 5,050 l/m²/sec for the P08, 37 microns and 4,500 for the P037, 14 microns and 1,800 for the P14, and 7 microns and 560 here. A fully equipped 1050XT is a big twin with a real appetite for air, so this is a considered decision rather than an upgrade. Riders whose loaded miles are mostly sealed should stay with the P08 and lose nothing by it. Riders whose route sheet is full of piste, sand and dry gravel are the ones this element was drawn up for.

Care and cleaning

Air from the clean face outwards is the whole of the routine, and it can be repeated as often as a trip demands. When air alone leaves a residue behind, wash the element in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse it until the water runs clear. Fitment & Compatibility

Made for the Suzuki V-Strom 1050XT of 2020 to 2026, fitting the unaltered factory airbox without adapters or spacers. This element serves four machines in total: the V-Strom 1050XT and V-Strom 1050 from 2020, together with the V-Strom 1000 and V-Strom 1000XT of the previous generation.
