Sprint Filter PM127T12 air filter

The facts.

DescriptionThe whole story

The standard element for this airbox is shared by twenty-one Ducatis, from the Panigale 899 to the Scrambler 1100. The 7-micron version of it is listed for nine — and every one of the nine is a Multistrada. Sprint Filter cuts the same housing in the same shape for all of them, so the difference is not mechanical. It is a statement about where these motorcycles are ridden, and on a Multistrada V2 of 2022 to 2024 it is a fair one: this is the Ducati people point down a gravel road to see where it goes.

Key Features

  • Dry polyester special nonwoven, filtering down to 7 µm
  • Rated flow of 560 l/m²/sec, about a ninth of the standard P08's 5,050
  • Made for off-road use and extreme conditions: long dirt stages, desert, dust that hangs in the air
  • Same shape and seat as the standard element, fitted in the unmodified airbox with no remap
  • Never oiled; cleaned with compressed air and refitted rather than thrown away
  • Specified for the life of the motorcycle, with two years of warranty from the date of purchase

A deliberate trade, not a better filter

Finer is not the same as better. The T12 stops far smaller particles than the P08's 80-micron weave, and it pays for that in flow: 560 litres per square metre per second against 5,050. Both halves of the trade are real. On a dusty track the finer catch keeps grit away from the cylinders on days when a coarser cloth would let it through; on tarmac the same mat simply spends breathing capacity and gives the rider nothing back. That is why it is sold next to the P08 rather than instead of it, at about three quarters of the standard element's price.

Who should leave it on the shelf

Most Multistrada V2s spend their lives on asphalt, and for them this is the wrong element. A rider whose off-road riding is a gravel car park, or a single unmade road on a tour, is better served by the P08 and an extra look at it afterwards. The T12 earns its place on the machine that does weeks of it — a trip through dry country where the air ahead of the bike is visibly full of dust — and on that machine it belongs in the airbox before the trip, not after the first warning. It is no more a performance part than the P08: nothing in an unmodified airbox makes the bike stronger.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air on the clean face of PM127T12, worked outwards across the whole mat, clears most of what a nonwoven collects on a dry trip. Heavier loads wash out in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear. Dry it slowly in moving air at room temperature — heat guns, radiators and flames damage the fibres before the damage shows — and refit it dry and untreated. Fitment & Compatibility

For the Ducati Multistrada V2 and V2 S built from 2022 to 2024, with the 937 cc twin; the Multistrada V2 of 2025 onwards, with the 890 cc engine, takes PM279T12 instead. Nine Multistradas share this T12, from the 1200 generation to the 950, and the Fitment tab lists them all.
