A dust medium catalogued for a homologation superbike looks like an error until the whole list is read. Sprint Filter makes four different elements for this one Ducati airbox and does not offer all four to the same machines: the standard woven panel and the racing weave are listed against eight bikes each, this nonwoven against six, the extreme grade against one. The Panigale V4R is among the six. That division is about the air these bikes ride in, not about how fast they are.
Key Features
- Dry special nonwoven rated at 14 microns — the finest element Sprint Filter catalogues for the Panigale V4R
- Rated flow of 1,800 litres per square metre per second, against 5,050 for the standard P08 in the same housing
- Fibres laid down at random in a mat with real thickness, so particles are held through the depth of the material, not on a flat woven face
- Roughly twice the filtering area of an ordinary performance element, folded to fit the series airbox
- Goes in where the original panel comes out: nothing cut, no adaptor, no remap, nothing to undo later
- Dry at every stage and never oiled; cleaned with compressed air and refitted, two years of warranty from purchase
How this airbox is divided
One housing, four specifications: 80 microns at 5,050 litres per square metre per second for road and track, 85 at 15,000 for racing, 14 at 1,800 here, 7 at 560 in the extreme grade. Coverage is the interesting part. The extreme element appears against one machine only, the Multistrada V4, the one most likely to find gravel under it. The Streetfighter is offered no fine grade at all. Six machines get this one: the Panigales, the Diavel V4 and the XDiavel V4. Read whole, the list sorts by the air a bike is expected to meet, not by the power it makes.
Where the fine end stops
For a Panigale it stops here. The 7-micron grade exists in this housing but is catalogued against the Multistrada, so 14 microns is as fine as the V4R is offered — a great deal of specification for a machine that lives on sealed surfaces. The cost is printed on the label: 1,800 against 5,050 is a little over a third of the standard flow rating, handed back on purpose in exchange for retention. And none of it makes the motorcycle quicker — a slot-in element adds no power to a standard V4R, and a fine one gives away intake headroom besides. What changes is what gets past it.
Care and cleaning
Servicing is compressed air held to the clean face and worked outward, driving the load back out the way it came in. Where a deposit is oily rather than dry, lukewarm water with a mild detergent lifts it; rinse until the water runs clear. It dries in moving air at room temperature — never with a heat gun, never over a flame — and the PM160P14 is refitted dry, nothing applied. Sprint Filter's maintenance sheet sits in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed for the Ducati Panigale V4R of 2019 to 2026. Five further machines carry the code: the Panigale V4 /S/SP, V4S Corse, V4S Speciale, Diavel V4 and XDiavel V4 — six entries in all. Order on the code, then confirm the year.
