It is a fair question why a racing filter element is listed for a hybrid motorcycle at all, and the answer explains something useful about how these parts are catalogued. Sprint Filter does not build elements for models, it builds them for airboxes — and the airbox on a Kawasaki Ninja 7 Hybrid is shared with eleven machines, several of which are small sports bikes that genuinely race. Every medium offered for that airbox is therefore offered for every machine that uses it. The P08 F1-85 is the competition fabric in that set: 15,000 l/m²/sec of air flow at a filtration of 85 microns, against the standard P08's 5,050 and 80.
Key Features
- Warranted for two years, and built to last the life of the motorcycle
- A direct replacement inside the standard airbox: no modification, no remap
- Dry polyester, never oiled, so nothing can migrate downstream
- Racing medium flowing 15,000 l/m²/sec, roughly three times the standard P08
- Filtration at 85 microns — a coarser weave than the road medium, by design
- Washable and reusable, serviced with compressed air from the clean side
What that means for this particular machine
Being straightforward about it: the hybrid is not the bike in the family that this fabric was developed around. Its combustion engine runs in bursts, often assisted and often not running at all, so the top of the intake's capability is a region it rarely visits — and the flow that the F1-85 buys is bought with a wider aperture, which is the one specification a road-ridden machine has reason to care about. For a Ninja 7 Hybrid used as intended, the standard P08 is the sensible medium and the P14 at 14 microns is the one for dusty routes.
Where the F1-85 would still be right
The exception is a machine being used on track, or one whose intake path has been opened up and remapped so the engine can act on what arrives, with a maintenance schedule to match. That is an unusual thing to do with a hybrid, but it is not an imaginary one, and the element is here for exactly that case. Whichever fabric is chosen, the airbox itself is untouched and the decision can be reversed in an afternoon. There is a second, quieter benefit to a part catalogued by airbox rather than by model. A hybrid built in modest numbers will one day be a model whose specific parts are awkward to find; its air filter will not be one of them, because the volume that keeps this element in production comes from the whole family rather than from this machine.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air from the clean side, worked outwards, and the element goes back dry — the service does not change with the fabric fitted. A deeper clean is lukewarm water with a mild detergent, a rinse until the water runs clear and a full air dry — patient, not assisted: heat and flame destroy the medium. There is no oiling step. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Kawasaki Ninja 7 Hybrid from 2024 to 2026. The same PM164S F1-85 element covers eleven machines around this airbox; the complete list is in the Fitment tab.
