A racing specification is written around a dry afternoon on a surface swept that morning. The Svartpilen 250 is the Husqvarna here most likely to be ridden all year, and its hard days are wet: standing water, spray off the vehicle in front, a salted road in February. None of that appears anywhere in the case for the P08 F1-85, a racing weave rated at 85 microns and 15,000 litres per square metre per second against the standard P08's 80 microns and 5,050. What does count in the wet is a property every element for this airbox already has.
Key Features
- Dry polyester in racing specification: 85 µm, 15,000 l/m²/sec
- Washable rather than disposable — the medium is meant to be soaked, cleaned and dried
- Paper swells once it is wet and never recovers its shape; polyester is washed on purpose
- Free of filter oil: nothing to re-dose after a wash
- Original airbox, original fixings, no modification and no remap
- Two-year warranty from purchase — for riding through the seasons the P08 is the better cloth
Water is the condition the specification never had to meet
A filter that gets soaked raises two questions: what the wetting does to the medium, and what is left afterwards. Cellulose fibres take up water, swell and stay swollen, so a drenched paper panel is finished as a calibrated part even once it looks dry. Dry polyester has neither problem: lukewarm water and a mild detergent are Sprint Filter's own recommended deep clean, which is not advice anybody gives about a paper panel. That property belongs to all three media cut for this housing, the P08 and the P14 included. It is not what the extra five microns are buying.
The thing a year-round 250 is really choosing
Take the wet-weather question out and the decision narrows to one line: which particles do you want kept out of a 248.8 cc single that should still be running in ten years? The racing cloth is the most open of the three, and a commuting Svartpilen has no use for three times the passage of a medium that already keeps up. For that it asks a little over two and a half times what the standard element does. None of the three makes a standard 250 noticeably faster either — what they give you is a low intake restriction and, unlike a paper panel, the ability to have it back after every clean.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air on the clean side, driven outward, is the routine service for the PM200S F1-85 and usually the only one. For a winter's worth of road film, wash the element in hand-warm water with a little mild detergent and rinse until nothing further comes away. Then leave it in circulating air until it is dry right through: heat of any kind damages the medium, and a flame destroys it. It goes back in dry and untreated. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the Husqvarna Svartpilen 250, 2020 to 2026, replacing the original element in an unaltered airbox. Thirteen Husqvarna and KTM machines share this element code, which is why the code and the year decide the order rather than the model name. The Fitment tab holds the list.
