Sprint Filter P08 F1-85 Air Filter for Racing – Honda CB1000R (2018–2026) PM203S F1-85

Sprint Filter makes five media. Three of them are catalogued for the CB1000R airbox: the standard P08, the fine P14 and this racing cloth. The water-repellent P037 is not listed for this housing, and neither is the T12 written for extreme conditions. What is left is a single line running from fine and slow to coarse and fast, and this element sits at one end of it. Sitting at the end of a line is a different thing from sitting at the top of a ladder.

One dimension, three positions

Read the three listings as a line and the decision becomes easier to make. Aperture and flow are what move: 14 µm against 1,800 litres at one end, 80 against 5,050 in the middle, 85 against 15,000 here. The published retention comparison is a separate matter and is measured at 100 microns, where this cloth records slightly higher than the standard element. That test says nothing about the fine end of the range, which is precisely where a 14 µm mat is designed to work, so the two figures answer different questions and neither ranks the media outright.

What a wider aperture asks of you

Five microns is a small number and a permanent decision. It applies to every hour the engine runs, on a machine that may well be kept for a decade, and it is the price of flow capacity that a standard naked litre bike has no way of drawing on: an insert filter does not make a standard motorcycle noticeably stronger, and the PM203S F1-85 leaves a CB1000R exactly as quick as it was. The purchase makes sense where the bike does regular circuit work and the element is inspected between outings. For everything else on this housing, the standard P08 is the better-placed choice.

Care and cleaning

Service is quick and consists entirely of taking things away. Compressed air at the clean face, worked outward, restores an even colour to the cloth; road film that resists comes off in warm water with a mild washing-up detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear. Drying happens in open air and never with heat, since a hot air gun or radiator will deform the material and a deformed element seals poorly ever after. It is refitted dry, with nothing sprayed on.
