DescriptionThe whole story▼
A type-approved silencer for a supercharged 998 cc engine has a hard problem to solve: the noise and emissions rules push mufflers to get bigger, and the Z H2 has less room than most. This one carries its own catalytic converter inside and still comes out 3.2 kg lighter and visually smaller than the part it replaces.
Key Features
- 4.5 kg against the standard 7.66 kg: 3.2 kg and 41.3 per cent less
- Catalytic converter included within the system, which is why it keeps full EC and ECE type approval
- The first Akrapovic silencer built to the design generation shown at EICMA 2019 — the hexagon reworked rather than repeated
- Black-coated titanium outer sleeve with an engraved logo and carbon fibre parts
- Appears smaller than the standard unit despite doing more work
- 1.0 PS at 10,650 rpm on an engine already making 180 PS
- 45 minutes to fit, no remapping required
The Converter Stays Inside
This is the detail that separates this part from a racing silencer. Most systems that save 41 per cent of the weight do it by leaving the emissions hardware behind, which costs the approval. Here the converter moves into the Akrapovic system instead of being deleted, so the bike keeps its papers and the owner keeps the option of an inspection without an argument.
It also explains the modest power figure. One horsepower on a supercharged 180 PS four is not the reason to buy this. The weight, the shape and the sound are.
A New Hexagon
Akrapovic's hexagonal muffler has been the company's signature since 2005. This is the redrawn version first shown at EICMA in 2019: the same family resemblance, tightened up, with the proportions pulled in so the silencer reads as smaller against the Z H2's bodywork. It runs counter to where type approval has been pushing exhaust design, and that is the point of it.
Z H2, Not the Ninja H2
Kawasaki builds two supercharged road bikes and they take different exhausts. The Z H2 is the naked one, launched in 2020 with the blower detuned for road use and a wide handlebar. The Ninja H2 is the faired hypersport machine that has been in production since 2015, and this silencer does not fit it.
Both appear under "H2" in most catalogues and in a lot of forum posts, which is how the wrong part gets ordered. Check the registration document: if it says Ninja, this is not your part.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-K10SO31-HGITBL covers the Kawasaki Z H2 from model year 2020 through 2024. The product was developed and tested on EU-specification machines; fitment and measured performance on bikes for other markets can differ.
Road Approval
EC type approval and ECE type approval, with the certificates supplied and downloadable here. The silencer is a legal replacement part for road use in the European Union.
