DescriptionThe whole story▼
In tight woods the widest part of an enduro bike is its handlebar, and on a narrow trail the gaps between trunks are often only a little wider. Anyone who takes an SWM RS 300 R into dense forest learns to tuck the elbows, turn the shoulders and still, now and then, clip a tree. When that happens the bike is often pulled round and dropped on the spot. Accossato's B8281 is a folding front brake lever for the RS 300 R from 2016 to 2019, milled from Ergal 7075 in Italy, with a hinge that can let the blade give way instead of snapping.
Key Features
- Folding CNC front brake lever for the SWM RS 300 R, model years 2016 to 2019
- Takes the place of the stock lever on the original front brake master cylinder
- Hinged anti-break blade that can fold forward on impact
- Short blade shaped for three fingers
- Machined from solid Ergal 7075 aluminium alloy in Italy
- Dark base, blade in black, blue or orange
- Delivered as one lever
- No German ABE on record; for off-road and competition riding
Construction and Material Quality
The B8281 is shaped by CNC machines in Italy from a solid piece of Ergal 7075. That alloy belongs to the high-strength end of the aluminium family, and Accossato picked it because it wants levers that are strong, light and dependable. The lever comes in two parts. A dark base mounts on the master cylinder, and a blade in black, blue or orange is connected to it by the hinge that lets it fold. On the brake side the blade is short, laid out for three fingers, so the rest of the hand stays wrapped round the grip.
When the Bar End Finds a Tree
A tree strike rarely looks dramatic. You misjudge a gap by a hand's width, the bar end touches bark and the front of the bike is yanked round. Sometimes you ride on with bruised knuckles; sometimes the bike stops dead and falls. The front brake is usually in use at that moment, because riders scrub off speed just before each gap, so the fingers are on the lever as the RS 300 R goes down. Trees rarely stand alone in a forest, and the bike tends to land among roots, stumps and stones.
What happens next depends on how the bike lands. If it drops onto its right side against a root or a stone, the brake lever takes the impact at its tip, and a solid blade can snap there or bend back towards the grip. The hinge on the B8281 gives the blade a way out: it can fold forward rather than absorb the whole blow. That will not save it every time, but it improves the odds that the SWM still has a full-length brake lever at the end of the loop. Deep in a forest, far from the van, that is worth a great deal.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the B8281 for the SWM RS 300 R from 2016 to 2019, where it replaces the stock lever on the original front brake master cylinder. On the left, the C7182 folding clutch lever is listed for the same four model years. Both are made in the same three colours, black, blue and orange, so a matching pair for the RS 300 R is easy to put together.
Road Approval
No German ABE is documented for the B8281. The RS 300 R is sold as a road-registered enduro, but this lever is intended for off-road riding and racing; on public roads it is not approved.
