One buying habit has to be put down before the rest of this page is any use. On most shelves the dearer version of a component is the more protective one, so an uncertain buyer moves up the range and is usually right to. In this airbox that instinct points the wrong way round. The CM251T12 filters finer than anything else catalogued for the 500 cm³ Valico DSX of 2021, and the standard road element listed beside it asks around thirty per cent more. The finest thing here is the cheaper thing, and no ranking survives that.
Key Features
- The finest medium in the programme: dry polyester non-woven, rated at 7 microns
- 560 l/m²/sec of rated flow, where the road-and-track medium carries 5,050
- Laid fibre rather than a weave, and dry in service, so nothing is applied before or after a wash
- Roughly double the filter area of other performance elements, in the unmodified housing
- Replaces the standard paper element one for one, with no airbox work and no fuelling change
- Washed, dried and refitted for as long as the bike is kept; guaranteed two years from purchase
What a price actually tracks
How a material is made, how much of it the maker moves, and what it is sold to sit next to. None of those is a measurement of what the material holds back. Two elements can share a frame, a box and a motorcycle and still be priced in an order that has nothing to do with their filtration, which is exactly the situation on this listing. So the shortcut that works in a supermarket has to be left outside the airbox, and the two published numbers used instead: how fine the medium is, and how freely it passes air. Everything worth deciding sits in those two.
The number that goes the other way
Fineness is always bought with flow, and here the bill is the steepest in the range. Against the standard element's 80 microns and 5,050 l/m²/sec, the CM251T12 is rated at 7 microns and 560 — around a ninth of the air through a given area of material. That is not a fault in the part; it is what the part is for. The rest belongs on the page just as plainly: nothing dropped into a series airbox adds power to a standard Valico DSX, and a medium that gives up this much flow is the last element in the catalogue that could. It earns its keep on dust and on nothing else.
Care and cleaning
An air line does the routine work on the CM251T12: hold it to the clean face and drive the load back out rather than deeper in. When a season has left more than dry dust behind, wash the element in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse it until the water runs off clear. After that it wants nothing but time and moving air — never a heat source, never a flame — and it must be completely dry before it goes back into the box. Nothing is oiled afterwards. The maintenance sheet is filed under the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Voge Valico DSX of 2021, 500 cm³, as a direct replacement in the standard airbox. Five listings are covered by this part number, the Valico DS and DSX from 2020 to 2026. The full list sits in the Fitment tab.
